The three stories are In “The True Story of Ah Q,” by Lu Xun; “The Golden Cangue” by Zhang Ailin; “Xiaoxiao’ by Shen
Congwen. According to the stories, there are three question to been answer in each short story.

acknowledge inferiority. Illustrate how Ah Q employs self-therapy to turn his defeats into victories, and analyze how his
psychological state symbolizes the Chinese mentality of the time.
2. Describe how social, economical, cultural and biological forces are in conflict in Xiaoxiao’s marriage in Shen
Congwen’s story “Xiaoxiao.”
3. Analyze the character Ch’i-ch’iao in “The Golden Cangue”. In what way is she a victim of her social environment and to
what extent is that terrible experience responsible for turning her from being the victimized to the victimizer?”
