PSYU 533 Psychopharmacology Term Paper Assignment Term Paper Topic: Antianxiety Medication Diazepam (generic name) Valium (brand name). The student is required to prepare a term paper consisting of a discussion and analysis of a psychotropic medication. The student should examine the psychopharmacological effect of the medication, the psychological condition (s) in which it is used, the advantages and disadvantages of its use, and its efficacy. The paper should be 8 – 10 pages in length and is due in Week 7 of the course. The paper will be worth 100 points. Part of the paper will require that the student also research outside reference materials in the form of scientific journal articles, books, media reports and web sites. The additional purpose of this assignment is to increase the student’s familiarity with research for psychology and informational databases. The student will use the research findings in the analysis of the chosen medication. The student is required to use a minimum of eight (8) references in researching his or her chosen psychotropic medication. Students may use as many references beyond this minimum number of five. These five required articles should have been published within the past ten (10) years. Students are required to use PRIMARY and SECONDARY sources as their references for the Final Paper. PRIMARY scientific articles/literature/sources are: articles that describe original research and these would be peer-reviewed prior to publication. SECONDARY scientific articles/literature/sources are: review articles, books, etc. that summarize/overview the primary literature; may or may not be peer-reviewed; often are written in response to invitations from journals, book editors, or publishers Two of the 8 references need to be: 1.
