Assignment
Students will prepare a 750 – 1000 word, double spaced, APA formatted analysis of the provided trade policy topic.
Students are expected to:
• research the issue using a combination of data and articles
• use economic thinking, models, and concepts to construct their analysis
• include at least one graph to support their analysis
• cite a minimum of three sources to support their analysis
Structure
• Introduction:
o Start with a lead that hooks the reader’s attention and establishes the relevance of the trade policy.
o Briefly summarize the initial trade policy including enough background information that someone unfamiliar with the topic would be able to develop a context for your analysis.
• Be sure to include the intended purpose of the trade policy and at least one relevant counterargument made at the time the policy was proposed and/or implemented.
o Briefly summarize the trade policy adjustment currently being discussed by the United States and China.
• Body:
o Write three paragraphs evaluating the domestic and foreign implications of the trade policy adjustment currently being discussed by the United States and China.
• Explicitly discuss the effect of the policy on producers and consumers in the United States and China as well as the effect in markets that use the produced good as an input.
o Present evidence to support your analysis.
o Be sure to use economic thinking, models (including at least one graph), and concepts in the presentation of all aspects of your analysis.
• Conclusion:
o Summarize the trade policy adjustment currently being discussed by the United States and China.
o Briefly discuss the next steps in approving the adjusted trade policy.
o Based on your analysis, draw an evidence-based conclusion about whether or not you believe the adjusted trade policy will be approved
