Essay: For this portion of the test, you will write an essay of approximately six substantial paragraphs. The essay should have a good introduction with a sophisticated thesis statement that doesn’t repeat the question, body paragraphs that each contain an idea that supports the thesis statement and answers the question, evidence and examples to support these ideas, and a conclusion that summarizes without being merely repetitious. For this part of the test, we do expect you to refer to evidence and examples from the lectures and the readings. To prepare for this part of the exam, be sure to look over the readings for broad themes and understand key concepts.
