4. Style and Grammar: – Keep in mind that your essay is in the genre of academic writing. That means that all guidelines for formal writing must be followed. – This must include: – A typed essay – Double-spaced, Times New Roman font with 1” margins – Correct spelling according to standard American English – Correct capitalization according to standard American English – This must not include: – Slang of any type – Contractions – use apostrophes only for possessive nouns [i.e. the theologian’s writing (singular noun), the theologians’ writings (plural noun) witches’ broom (nouns ending in an “s.”)]
5. Citations – Information from readings must be cited *Use the style that corresponds to your major field – Include a works cited page with your essay *Use the style that corresponds to your major field
