Zbigniew Brzezinski

I’m applying for Harvard Summer School and there’s little time left. That’s the assingment: ”Writing sample. Send in an essay in English that has been reviewed and graded by one of your teachers. Your essay can be on any topic. Poems, short stories, or lab reports cannot be substituted.” Maybe it should look like a college essay, I don’t know. I decided to write about Brzezinski as a person who inspires me (he is from Poland, same as me, he graduated from Harvard, I’m really interested in business and international relations, I read a lot, we have a lot in common, etc.). I have no idea how to start the essay. I don’t know if I can include some details such as my interests etc. (in Poland it works in different way) If yes, in the scratch there are some details. I’m 17, 11th grade. If it’s not enough, I attach a scratch of the essay (just hard facts, some key-words, I need you to put it into understandable sentences and make an excellent essay but if you think the topic isn’t enough for Harvard or something is wrong just change it as you wish) and my resume below. Thanks in advance

The scratch:

I like reading Forbes and watching BBC’s Planet Earth. I like basketball and I do care about human’s rights violations and there is a handful of people that I perceive as heroes, people overwhelmed by mundane affairs, but with supernatural courage, that is physical, mental and political courage. These people do care about the world and take actions when it’s neccesary, they influence events in the right direction, and that is a way of exercising power. They share passions with me and I do hope to conform to them in little part at least.

Though he is my compatriot, Zbigniew Brzezinski has always been a luminescent guiding light for me. A scholar with uncommon intellect, thought provocing ? a goal to which I aspire. His profound specialization in one particular matter – Dissolution of the Soviet Union has always impressed me. He was the United States National Security Advisor to President Jimmy Carter. Though I’m interested in geography, business, economics and law ? that’s what I owe him.

What is the most surprising in this man is his youthful curiosity, inquisitivenes that can be noticed on his face. He is not effusive, he keeps distance, though he is friendly. He is hardworking, immigrant to everything he reached with his own work, he values freedom. Being a Pole he had emotional approach to the Soviet Union. He acts live. He wanted to overthrow the communist government in Poland. He stated that to influence the course of accidents, it is essential to be morally responsible. He contributed to the anti-Israeli coalition burst and to the normalization of relations with China. He made me interested in world affairs. That’s why I got interested in Model United Nations and I started my own club in my high school in Poland. As a leader, I prepared my friends for conferences and they succeed. And because of his authority I study languages, so I speak Polish, English, French, Russian, German and Spanish(beginner).

He is a normal person with a mundane life. He is a man with passion, though he keeps balance between work and leisure-family time. How much surprised I was, when I found out that we share the same passions. He hunts, I hunt, he likes tennis, I play basketball instead, We are both fascinated with Polish nature.

Recently, he spoke on the issue of Ukraine. He isn’t perfect. The hero for me do not need to be saint. He made some mistakes, not to mention the Iranian Crisis. Maybe I don’t know what I think about the death penalty, maybe I have mixed feelings about religion, but I have time to find it out and I’m trying. As I am not perfect, I dream about such teacher, I look up to him and I hope that in the future I will change the world such as he did – at least.
