As a student, you have been given a unique opportunity, you have read both books in the To Kill a Mockingbird series. Also, be aware that Harper Lee died this semester. In your Forum, please answer the following questions: 1. In your opinion, is Atticus now racist? How did or did not his racial attitudes change across both books? Give examples. 2. In the book it begins to explain a biological justification for intellectual differences in the races? What is the argument in Watchman? Look up, even in Wikipedia, this justification. What is your opinion about these arguments? 3. Jean Louis in To Kill was a tomboy, and in Watchman is a feminist and progressive. Or, is she? Using 2-3 terms from your book, how-why do people change over time? Have you seen yourself change since your childhood? Explain. 4. There is a scene where Jean Louise pauses on the sidewalk at the exact spot where Jem died. Atticus tells Jean Louise that it’s “about time she got over that.” Jean Louise replies “I don’t want to discus it. I want to move somewhere else.” Then Atticus says “Let’s go in the office then.” [actually there is a typo in the book]. Read up on Elizabeth Kubler Ross satges of grieving and loss acceptance. Where is Jean Louis in this process? 5. This will be a difficult question and will require some thought across both novels: If Jem had not died, what would he “be like” or would Jean Louis be different? 6. Offer a review in 1-2 paragraphs your review, opinion, experience of reading both books. In your paragraphs, use 5 terms from your text. I do want 1 wikipedia, 1 website, and then one original article. If you do not use 1 original article I will deduct an automatic 15 points. Each paragraph should consists of at least 5-7 sentences. I look forward to your responses. Your references will need to be in APA format.
