Habermasian Method “Ways of knowing”.

1. Why I will use this method?
2. What is this method?
3. How I will apply this method to answer the research questions?

Before I start with this chapter “Methodology chapter 3”, I have to link this chapter with the chapter before which is “ Chapter 2” Gifted Education in Saudi Context,

Please read this chapter,

At he end of this chapter 2 the challenges, and the gaps that facing Saudi Education, Will rise, also the Research Questions will appear,

2. What is the contribution of Islamic scholarship in Western Scholarship?
3. What contribution to thinking about gifted education comes from a traditional Islamic perspective?
4. What is the balance of influences (Western and Islamic) that Saudi educational system needs for a good policy on gifted education?

# To answer these questions I will use ways of knowing by habermas as a method.

So, the task here should be as the following:

1. Highlight the gabs and the challenges, then Bring out the thesis Research Question, Half page
2. Link the solution is using Habermasian Method “ Ways of knowing” then Explain for the reader why I believe this method is good in this thesis?, as ” a Structure connection” for the following chapter. Half page

3. Then start to write “Methodology chapter 3”, as the following sections:

Chapter 3: Habermasian Method “ Ways of knowing”

3.1 Introduction. Start with linking to the chapter review above half page.
3.2 Habermass theory “Ways of knowing”. What are they? And how I will apply them to answer thesis questions? 2-3 pages
3.3 Whys of knowing and Education.

3.4 Ways of knowing and Schools.

3.5 Ways of knowing and Curriculum.

3.6 Ways of knowing and Teacher and Learner.

3.7 Ways of knowing and Scholars communication. To show the importance of ” Ways of knowing” to investigate, the communication between scholars from different cultures.
Because this thesis will investigate the relationship and the communication cognitive between Western scholars and Islamic scholars:
So, this section will try to show how far this method ” Ways of knowing, through the 3 steps” will be helpful in this thesis to uncover the relationship between two kinds of scholars from different cultures.
3.8 Conclusion.

As you know this a thesis so, each section also needs 4 basic things:
1. Quoting from Habermass.
2. A linking between the sections. 1-2 sentences.
3. A paragraph as a how this section related to this thesis.

Statistical paper in applied linguistics needs to be rewritten from scratch to look as anew paper to be submitted again

Please read the following two sections carefully to get a clear idea about what this assignment is about and how the uploaded paper should be modified and rewritten. You can then have a look at the other attached files to see the requirements given by the professor on how to perfectly write this paper and how to distribute the length of each part, and what each part of the paper must include.

SECTION 1:
This section will give general overview about the assignment. Please read it and then you can go through the second sections for more details.

1-This is a final paper in a subject named “ Quantitative and Qualitative in Applied Linguistics”. This paper include data collection and some statistics.

2-It weighs 60% from the total grade. So to pass the subject I have to present a very well designed and written paper.

4- Note that I do not want you to write a complete new paper, actually, I will upload a file contains an already written paper in a specific topic in the field of applied linguistics, which I had submitted to the university last semester.

What I want you to do exactly is to rewrite this paper again in different words to look as a new paper; namely to modify the paper, the title of the paper, the questions of the study, literature review, results, statistics, and all the other parts of the study, so that I can submit it again.

For how this new paper should look, please get back to the other two uploaded files with this order and follow the description their, which were given by the professor strictly, to insure that I submit a paper as good as the professor wants, and to meet all his requirements.

6- for the statistics in the old paper, you need to change them just very slightly to differ from the numbers in the old study. I think if you change the mean of the participants’ performance, the other statistics (standard deviation, correlations) will be changed respectively when you calculate them again.. However, in the second following section, when I talk about the part of the result I will give you the option that we can do about the statistics.

7- as I do not have the original data which I had used in the original uploaded paper, and that I cannot then upload it to you, if you cannot modify the statistics in the old paper, you may find data from anywhere, that can give results that are close to the statistics in the old paper to insure that the result section and the discussion section will not be different from what is in the original paper. In this way, by getting a new data, you will need to calculate the same descriptive statistics and correlation and any other statistics to preserve the aim of the study.

8- Please be aware that the professor will do some steps and will use some tools to make sure that all the statistics are true, homogenous, and well calculated. So please take care of doing the calculation properly and come up with true results.

9- the instruments used in this paper are tests for vocabulary, grammar and reading comprehension. You can see these three tests in the appendix A in the original uploaded paper. You have to redesign another three tests for each skill from your own. I will talk about this exam in the second section in the part of the instruments and procedure.

The most important is to insure that the new tests are in the same levels of difficulty and be careful with the distractions in the multiple choices questions. In this regard please use the tests in the old paper as a guide and try to imitate them in the style, logic, and in the level of difficulty but you have to use different vocabulary. For the comprehension section you need to design different and short reading passages too, with multiple choices questions for each passages.

10-The submission of this paper to the university will be through “Turnit in’ so it is very important that the similarity between the old paper and the new one is Zero.

11- please try to check the old paper before you start rewriting it in terms of any weaknesses, and then try to fix it in the new paper.

12- I will upload another two files which were given by the professor include some instructions about how to write this paper and about the criteria that I have to meet in this paper to fulfil the conditions given by the professor.

13-Another important point is that you are allowed to expand the literature review wherever it is necessary, and you can give more explanations and justification in the analysis part, discussion part or in the result part.

14- if you feel that you can do more statistics than what are existed in the paper, which will help to give valuable result to the paper, please do it, otherwise no.

SECTION 2:

In this section I will give you some instruction for each part of the paper separately, which will help you to modify the original paper to come up with a new one.

1-The introduction:
It needs to be rewritten in a different words but it is better to keep the flow of the ideas as they were logically structured in the original paper. You can expand them or add to them if you have something valuable.

2-The literature review:
Please read it carefully and then rewrite it in ad different words. You can add another sources or references to expand the literature. Please pay attention to the references used in the original paper to avoid any similarity between the original and the new paper. Make the literature move logically from the wide range to the narrow in order to support the aim of the study. You can conclude the literature review emphasizing the importance and the quality of the mentioned literature to the current study. Then connect the ideas in the literature with the aim of the present study.

3-The present study:
Before starting the part of the methodology please write the aim and the purpose of the current study and rewrite the questions of the study to look different from those in the original paper. Be careful that these questions should be answered clearly later in the part of the result or the discussion.

4-The methodology:
This part consists of the participants, the instruments and procedure, the results and the discussion.

A)- The participants:
In the new paper let’s assume the following scenario: (I will suggest the following Ideas and you can structure them and write them professionally).

1-this study was conducted in the college of petroleum and mineral in Saudi Arabia.
2-the total participants are 120 males, learners and their first language is Arabic.
3-their ages are between 18 to 23 years.
4-Although the participants come from the same background where they have been studied English language during the last 6 years before the college, they might have different proficiency depending on their individual ability. In Saudi Arabia, students study English for six years starting form the intermediate to the secondary school. Each year students studies two courses. However the teaching of English in Saudi Arabia pay more attention on grammar and reading rather than speaking and listening.
5- according to the college, all new students must do a test before starting their degree to examine their English proficiency levels (placement test). Based on the results of this test, the students were classified into three groups; primary, intermediate and advanced. Advanced students do not have to commence in any preparation courses whereas primary and intermediate students must complete some different English language course before starting their degree. The participants in this study belong to the primary and the intermediate level. 60 participants are primary, and 60 are intermediate.

B)-Instruments and procedure:
1-First you will need to design a test similar to the one in the (Appendix A), and we will assume in this part (the instrument and procedure) that this test is developed by the institute of the management in Saudi Arabia in Riyadh.

2- for the other description of this instrument (the test) and its details, its purpose, and the way in which it will be marked ,please rewrite a reasonable information from your own and you can represent the information in the original paper but in completely different words and style.

C)-the part of the results:
THIS PART HERE AND THE NEXT PARTS ARE THE MOST SENSETIVE AN IMPORTANT PARTS IN THIS STUDY. PLEASE TAKE CARE OF THEM.

Here in this part you have two options as follow:

1- The first option is that you find data from your own (scores) for the 120 participants and recalculate them in light of the statistics presented in the original study. Here you should do and present the same kinds of the statistics existed in the original paper; namely: the descriptive statistics such as the mean, the standard deviation and the correlation or any other statistics. Then you need to present them in the results’ part. I am sure you can do better than what is existed in the original paper, but also you may start from the original paper and then add what you think is right.
2- The second option in this part is that you start from the statistics in the original paper and modify them carefully to come up with slightly different statistics results and then represent them in your words in the part of the result. Here you need also to modify all the tables and do the necessary changes.
The most important point to mention here is that all the statistics should be calculated properly as the professor has his own procedures to check the validity of the statistics and will discuss me in every single mistake. I hope nothing of this will happen.

3- Another important here is how the writer of the original paper presents the result. Please pay attention to the logical flow of the result and the way we explain what the tables say.
4- In your way when presenting the results in this part please refer to the table when it is necessary.
5- I am not sure but I think in the original paper in the part of the result the writer not just provide the tables of the statistics and then presents them, but he also analyse them. If you think so, and you think this is right please do as so, otherwise do as the description of the assignment which is given by the professor in the other attached files.

D) Discussion Part:

You now the aim of this part better than me. Please read the description of the assignment given by the professor to check if there are specific conditions required in this part or the other parts in the whole paper.

Generally, represent the aim of the result, the instrument used, the result and the analysis and how this study is related to the results in the literature review. Do not forget to mention any gap in this study or in the previous studies here.

Finally, I am not sure that there is a conclusion in the original paper. You can decide on how to conclude this paper.

E)- the references:
Through your way in rewriting the paper you will use other sources to enrich the paper, and you will add them to the list, I hope this will not cause any similarity between the original and the new paper.
