Cardiovascular Disease Case Study

Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the number one killer of both men and women in the United States (American Heart Association, 2013). Many

risk factors are associated with CVD. A risk factor is a variable which can increase a persons risk of developing a disease such as family

history, obesity, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. Chronic diseases, such as heart disease, can have a direct impact on a persons

wellness. Making healthy lifestyle changes can decrease a persons risk of heart disease and other chronic diseases.

Examine the relationship between cardiovascular health status and wellness by completing the Assessment Activity 2-2: A Case Study of Bill

M. on page 73 in your course textbook. For this assignment, the following questions from the end of the case study should be rewritten and

then answered in a Word document:
What are Bill’s risk factors for coronary heart disease?
Which factors can he control?
What suggestions can you give him regarding his current diet?
What effects may a change in diet have on his coronary risk profile?
What suggestions can you make regarding Bill’s need for exercise, and how might a change in his activity level affect his coronary risk

profile?
What are the risks associated with obesity?

Capstone Seminar in Homeland Security

This is my final paper in my Capstone Seminar class. Please use proper grammar and punctuation please.

Writing Guidelines

Each writing assignment deals with the topic under discussion. These writing assignments cumulatively account for 75% of the student’s

grade. Writing assignments length is specified in each component assignment and varies with the particular exercise.

The purpose of the major paper is for you to demonstrate the ability to take the knowledge you have gained through all your other classes

and apply it in resolving some problem associated with securing the nation. This is not intended to be a thesis, but to be one of three

types of papers: a research project that produces a publishable paper for submission to a peer reviewed journal, or a policy paper for

submission to one of the many DHS/FEMA journals, or if you are a Homeland Security professional, a policy recommendation that addresses an

agency problem. This paper should be an 8 to 12 page length, exclusive of the cover page, abstract, and references. It will be prepared

either as an academic paper or a memorandum along the guidelines provided in the APA or Chicago writing style manuals.

The Major Paper will have 1-inch margins all around. You are expected to use a standardized font – preferably Times New Roman, 12 point.

Cite your references in EVERY instance and include a properly formatted reference list. The paper requires a Cover Page, Abstract, the

body of the paper, Appendices (as appropriate), and a Reference section. Table of Contents and Table of Figures are NOT required.

Every writing assignment should be submitted as a WORD or PDF document. If you do not have Microsoft Office or Adobe Acrobat, then copy

the text you have written directly into the assignment section of Blackboard during the appropriate week. Do NOT submit writing

assignments in Word Perfect, Microsoft Works, or some e-mail format. They will not be accepted.

Final papers are submitted to the Texas Digital Library for publication as demonstrated proof of your learning. Your final paper MUST MEET

ALL THE ABOVE REQUIREMENTS or it will NOT be accepted and you will NOT get a passing grade.

To access the APA writing guidelines go to this link: rhttp://owl.english.purdue.edu/owl/resource/560/01/. Should you wish to use CHICAGO

style that will be acceptable. The Chicago Style guide can be found at http://www.chicagomanualofstyle.org. Feel free to ask your

professor for assistance, clarification, or guidance at any time.

While the online writing guides are sufficient for most purposes in most courses, they are difficult to use when preparing a major

publishable paper. Although the following book is not required, it is strongly recommended that you have a copy available for your use:

A Writer’s Reference by Diana Hacker
Get one of the Plastic Comb (Spiral Bound) editions. Either the 6th or 7th edition is acceptable for this course.
7th Ed. ISBN: 978-0312601430
6th Ed. ISBN: 978-0312450250

OK – don’t forget to use the FBI UCR info as well as other crime and gang statistics. The TX DPS keeps a good site that has info too. Go

forth and “revolutionize the criminal and police department.”

Global Political economy: To what extent can free trade be viewed as beneficial to economic development

To what extent can free trade be viewed as beneficial to economic development? Use specific examples to support your answer.

The research essay is for 1500 words, excluding appendices and the bibliography. Reports are to demonstrate clear evidence of the author’s

ability to collect relevant and meaningful research that has been cited correctly and to mount a thoughtful, coherent argument based upon

these findings.

Finished assignments must be well structured and demonstrate clear evidence that the student has conducted substantive research on the

topic and reflected thoughtfully upon the findings. Sources of ideas appearing in the text other than one’s own must be cited, and

bibliographies must be attached. Failure to do so will result in a grade zero. While I encourage you to use as many academic sources as

you potentially can, you are strongly advised not to use Wikipedia. Make sure your run a spell check before you submit – marks will be

deducted for poor spelling and unprofessional presentation. It is also important that your paper is properly referenced, using the Harvard

system. Failure to do so would mean that students would be penalised.

What are the basic characteristics that distinguish the earliest forms of Christianity

What are the basic characteristics that distinguish the earliest forms of Christianity (you can just focus on the Pauline communities unless you really want to dazzle me with gnosticism and other interesting groups), Protestant Christianity, and Roman Catholicism from one another. Focus on these areas: the afterlife, communion, sin, religious images, and church hierarchy? Do their differences outweigh their similarities, or do the essential principles that they share unite these traditions as legitimate expressions of Christianity? Yes this is a big question 🙂

Extra Credit History

History News Articles Assignment

One of the options you have for extra credit is to do the history news articles. The purpose of the optional history news articles

assignment is to show you that articles related to your class material appear in the news all the time. So if you do this assignment you

will be looking for articles that specifically reference the primary history you are studying (which is U.S. history between 1865 and

2000). The articles must come from a current newspaper, news website, or news magazine (meaning something published within the dates of

you class term) and the articles must not come from a history magazine, or newspaper blog or magazine blog, or a history website, or from

something like the New York Times “Topics” since that would defeat the purpose of the assignment which is to show you that there are

articles in the current news all the time about the primary material of your class. Nor should you use something from “This Day in

History” which is more of an announcement than an article. Keep in mind that if you are looking for articles in a standard newspaper (like

the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, New York Times, Daily Breeze, Wall Street Journal, or Daily News) you are most likely to find them in

section A, but also check other sections, like the Obituary section and the Editorial page. When you find an appropriate article, clip it

and attach it securely by staple or tape, to a standard sheet of paper, or, if you find your article online or want to scan the hard copy

of your article, you can put it in an email with a link to it. Also put your name and class number, and include date of the publication

and page from which you got the article if you are submitting a hard copy. Then write a paragraph explaining what the article says and

another paragraph explaining what parts of the article directly relate to the primary content of your class. Remember, you are expected to

turn in ten news articles (and/or projects) if you want to complete this optional assignment, so get started sooner than later even though

the extra credit is not due until the start of the final exam. The idea here is to learn the history behind the stories in the news today

to enhance your appreciation of the fact that knowing the past is relevant for understanding the present and acting upon the future. So

keep your eyes open for historical items and write about them if you want to complete this assignment! You can turn in your articles or

projects, either individually or in total, anytime you like during the course term, but you should try and turn things in sooner than

later and preferably at least one week prior to the due date in case an article pr project is rejected and you need to do another.
