My Topic: Causes of Alcohol Use among High School Students

Final Project: My Topic: Causes of Alcohol Use among High School Students
Write 0 to 9% original well-constructed research paper.
*Avoid Plagiarism. Plagiarism is defined as use of intellectual material produced by another person without acknowledging its source. Plagiarism includes using the views, opinions, or insights of another without acknowledgment as well as misuse of your own scholarly work.*
Hello Students,
So our penultimate week of the Quarter starts tomorrow (Mon 2/9/15). On Day 7 (see syllabus) your final term paper is due. Please review the comments I made within your draft. Also, look over the syllabus’ description of what your term paper must include. I am hopeful that the feedback you got helps you ace this term paper as it’s worth 70 points, or 35% of your grade. I feel you have resources to accomplish this so please take your time. And remember, the syllabus directs that I include in my considerations for your grade your use of APA formatting. In your APA Manual (6th ed.) there are some great resources: Fig. 2.1 shows what a paper should look like (including running header, page numbers… – no need for an abstract in your final paper though), Table 3.1 can help with section headings, Table 6.1 can help with citations, and Section 7 provides all the information you’d ever want regarding references. Good luck!!!
Final Paper / Peer Feedback Exercise:
For your final paper, you will analyze a social problem that affects the community in which you live. Prior to submitting your final version, you will participate in a peer-review exercise. A feedback rubric for this exercise is posted in the Course Info area.
The schedule for the final paper:

Week 11 / Day 7 Final paper due
The paper must include the following sections:
1. A description of the problem. You can enhance this section with excerpts from local news stories or governmental statistics. You may also wish to include summaries of interviews with individuals who are affected by the problem.
2. An analysis of the problem using one of the social change theories that you have studied in this course.
3. A proposal for at least one concrete action that can be developed to help ameliorate the problem. Include information about how the action would be funded. Your proposed action needs to be supported by psychological and/or sociological theory, research, and practice.
4. Explain how psychologists / mental health professionals can play a key role in driving or supporting your proposed action.
5. Critique your suggested action by examining how feasible it would be culturally, politically, economically, and otherwise, given what you know about your community.
6. Discuss the potential positive and negative outcomes of applying your selected interventions to the problem and be sure to outline the potential unintended consequences of you suggestions.
7. Discuss any ethical issues that your suggested action would pose for psychologists and how these issues may be addressed.
8. Finally, briefly discuss how you might evaluate the outcomes of your proposed action.
This paper must be written to conform to APA standards. Your final paper should not exceed 20 pages, including references.

Your paper must also meet the following criteria:
 Wikipedia, while a great source for getting initial information on a topic, is not considered a scholarly source. Thus, it is not acceptable as a source for your final paper.
 Minimal use of direct quotes.
 Web site citations are allowed when they contain relevant statistics (e.g., .gov Web sites);
 80% of the citations must come from peer-reviewed journal articles; 20% may come from local news sources, government documents, personal communication, etc.
 The majority of your references (80%) must be no more than five years old.
 Textbooks may not be used as citations;
 Dictionaries may not be used as citations;
 Your paper must contain headings and subheading levels as indicated in the APA style guide.

Asexuals: What Asexualtiy Contributes to the Same-Sex Marriage Discussion

What Asexualtiy Contributes to the Same-Sex Marriage Discussion: Summarize the author’s historical analysis of marriage? Contrast Rauch and Sullivan’s position on same sex marriage with that of Ettlebrick? What are the challenges faced by asexuals in defining their relationships? How does asexuality make us re-think what constitutes an intimate relationship? What is the author’s critique of marriage based on her study? (1 page single spaced)

Sex, Money and the Kitchen Sink: What are the advantages for relationships that do NOT have institutional supports, cultural guidelines, and historical models? What critiques are made regarding heterosexual relationships for men and women? What kinds of power imbalances were discussed in non-heterosexual relationships? What do the authors’ mean by “local or community guidelines” and “sexual stories”? (1 page single spaced)

Alliance for Full Acceptance and Beyond Same Sex Marriage: Discuss your response to these two articles (1/2 page single spaced)

Remember to have patience when doing the reading – if you don’t quite understand something, that’s fine – we will break down the reading during class and you should then have a good understanding of it. Also please mark interesting passages, as we will be doing close readings of the text. Remember to use quotes and cite the page number – absolutely DO NOT PLAGERIZE – try to paraphrase what the author is saying in your own words. DO NOT STRING A BUNCH OF QUOTES TOGETHER – for every quote, you should write three sentences in your own words to explain the quote. Sometimes it helps to connect personal experience and/or a current event to your analysis of the reading.

POINTS WILL BE DEDUCTED ON THE WRITING ASSIGNMENTS FOR THE FOLLOWING REASONS: 1) You did not follow the above mentioned guidelines; 2) You concocted a response to the reading that clearly shows that you did not do the readings; 3) You did not address the questions I posed for the homework assignment; 4) You missed some portion of the assignment.

Manager’s meeting to facilitate the company’s transition to using self-directed, high-performing teams

You are making a case in a manager’s meeting to facilitate the company’s transition to using self-directed, high-performing teams. You must convince the other managers that while this is a long-term initiative, its benefits will be huge. A well-planned approach is important, and many will need to have training to learn some of the team-building skills necessary to make this a success. You realize that for some, this may be uncomfortable, which is why the managers must be the first team to practice and demonstrate the traits of a high-performing team.
