Liquidity, Debt, and Equity

For this discussion, assume the role of an investor. How would you know whether the company you are considering to invest in has repurchased any of its own stock and/or issued stock dividends during the current period? Why is this important, and would you find any of this information on the statement of cash flows? What level of liquidity and solvency would you be looking for? Why? Tip: Consider the footnotes in your reply.

Byzantium: In 324 CE Emperor Constantine I moved the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Byzantium

In 324 CE Emperor Constantine I moved the capital of the Roman Empire from Rome to Byzantium. Constantinople, as it would be named, would be inaugurated on May 11, 330 CE. The city’s location held many advantages to the former capital. For years the Empire had been plagued with problems in the Balkans. Constantinople’s location was closer to those unsettled frontiers allowing the army to respond more quickly to crises. Additionally, its position on the Bosphorus Strait put it at the center of trade routes linking Europe to the East. Both the land and sea routes came through the area allowing the city to grow rich from the amount of merchandise being traded. That wealth led to a flourishing of growth. Churches, palaces, private dwellings, public baths, and grand arches were built throughout the city.

Following Constantine’s death the Empire was left to his three sons. Each was given the portion he had already controlled. This initial split would set the stage for later developments and the creation of two capitals: Rome in the West and Constantinople in the East. Both portions were ruled by Roman law and political institutions. Language did create a barrier though. The population of the west spoke Latin whereas those in the east spoke Greek. And although Constantine adopted Christianity as the religion of the Roman Empire, later rulers of the west would revert to their pagan ways creating further division between the two halves. It would be these religious differences that would ultimately create the schism between the two areas

Based on your reading of Worlds Together, Worlds Apart; Exchanges, and your investigation of the links provided on the Interactive Timeline for Byzantine Empire, Fall of Rome:

Discuss Byzantium’s rise.
•Did its growth contribute to the demise of Rome or was it a consequence of it?
•Use sources from the timeline to support your interpretation.

This paper is for a quality assurance management class.

Here is the introduction I started on it sets the tone for the paper I want, you can change the introduction to fit the paper but please stay with the tone.

Introduction – INTRODUCTION

Dr. W. Edwards Deming recognized managers were not interested in pleasing customers or workers. Deming crated 14 points to help set managers and companies up for success. The basic reason most company’s go into business is to make a profit. Top executives tend to hire managers who understand how to run lean departments in order to create profits. Managers who consistently turn a profit quarter after quarter are heavily rewarded. When managers are more concerned with profits than quality workers have to step in and try to fill the gap.

Here is my problem statement for the research paper:

Problem statement: According to the status quo Management should provide workers with the supplies needed to perform quality services. Management should have a system in place to ensure supplies are available for workers to perform services. Unfortunately, when management fails to have an ordering system in place for supplies, workers initiate quality. Managers are more concerned with looking good on a balance sheet and cutting cost.

In the novel In The Time of Butterflies by Julia Alvarez

Minerva is portraited as a woman that is revolutionarist at that time because she is seeking for her freedom and her countries. Her actions are more of men then woman so thats is why she even stand out more.

Paragraphs quote and analysis

Talk about how everything started after the ball where Minerva slaps him.

After she go to law school how she met manolo. And trujilo said she could nor practice being a lawyer.

She came home saying that she had so much knowledge but for nothing , because sehe couldnt do anything.

Choose quotes proving her revolutionary. Do them in order , make the paragraphs flow. And have a topic sentence , each paragraph has to analyze something.

Quotes:
1.”And that’s how I got free. I don’t mean just going to sleepaway school on a train with a trunkful of new things. I mean in my head after I got to Inmaculada and met Sinita and saw what happened to Lina and realized that I’d just left a small cage to go into a bigger one, the size of our whole country.”

2. What did I want? I didn’t know anymore. Three years stuck in Ojo de Agua, and I was like that princess put to sleep in the fairy tale. I read and complained and argued with Dede, but all that time I was snoring away.
“When I met Lio, it was as if I woke up. The givens, all I’d been taught, fell away like so many covers when you sit up in bed.”

“Viva la Mariposa!” ( when they where in the cells)

Summaries I found online
Minerva chooses an outspoken, non-traditional female role, which shifts over time.
A. Minerva is a tomboy and daddys girl who must cut the cord with her father in order to begin her own adult life.
B. Minerva is drawn to a challenging career as a lawyer and also joins the anti-Trujillo resistance.

The turning point for Minerva comes when Trujillo INVITES Don Enrique to a Discovery Day Ball at his palace, requesting that Minerva accompany him. This addendum ignites suspicion: Trujillo is legendary for his appreciationand exploitationof virginal beauty. The Mirabal sisters remember how he whisked the beguiling seventeen-year-old Lina Lovatn from their convent school. He established Lina in a remote mansion and commanded the nuns to give her a diploma in absentia, placating them by contributing substantially to their school and building its gymnasium, named for Lina.
Minerva, uniquely successful at getting her way through her skilled use of logic, rebuffs the presidents advances at the ball and, when they become flagrant on the palace dance floor, she slaps his face with all her might. By doing this she gains his respect but engenders his smoldering animosity.
Minerva tells Trujillo that she wants to attend law SCHOOL . He discourages her but eventually arranges for her admission. Four years later, she receives her diploma, but, revealing his strong upper hand, Trujillo withholds from her the necessary Dominican license to practice law.
Minerva marries Manolo, two years ahead of her in law school but five years younger. He becomes a leading figure in the Dominican underground, in which she also serves as an enthusiastic worker. She learns the code language of the movement, stores large quantities of arms and propaganda in her house, and becomes increasingly engrossed in seeking Trujillos downfall.
