Mythbusters

Find a segment of the show “Mythbusters”  (Netflix has all of them, Youtube has several of them) where the team explores a science myth.

Write an introduction section with background on the problem being solved.  Comment on the team’s use of the scientific method.

Did they prove the myth to be true or to be false?  Do you agree with their conclusion?  What experiments could they do to explore the myth further?

Can you think of any related problems that could be explored with similar techniques.

Be sure to properly source the show and all other external references that you use.

Be sure to include paper sections (introduction/background, experimental method, results, conclusions.)

ESEARCH ON THE WEB – ESSAY:

,,.
Each research assignment requires that you write an essay connecting a number of different ideas or concepts. These “ connections” are what you express in your essay. No two assignments follow the same path; so do not be surprised that your essays do not follow the same plan, but I want those essays presented to me using the following format.
..

1. A personal summary of your essay, in a narrative form, in your own words, is to be presented at the top of your essay, making it the first paragraph that I read. This can be very short, but must summarize your essay. Consider it a condensed version of your essay.

.

2. Your essay must list the question and present your research, as well as your conclusions. These essays are not opinion works, so you will have to cut and paste materials from the web to substantiate and detail your research.

3. Following your essay, please include sources for all of your research with WWW addresses.  As always, your work is expected to be grammatically correct and spelled accurately.

..

4) LISTENING ASSIGNMENTS:

This category lists the audio and video assignments you are tested on. Your textbook comes included with a 2 CD set, and you are required to obtain an additional 4 CD set. Most (but not all) chapters will have a selection of music that you are to listen to. I have posted the LISTENING TESTS for these chapters as assignments in each learning module.  You can take these tests any time before or on the date for that chapter.

…. .

When you submit your Listening Assignments to me by e-mail, I require the following information. You will not get full credit if any of these items are missing.

1) Title of Work

2) Movement of work (if applicable)

3) Name of Composer (if applicable)

EXAMPLE:

1) Symphony #1

2) 2nd movement (Allegro)

3) K T Futterer

……..
RESEARCH ON THE WEB – ESSAY: Discuss the fusing of musical styles in the video productions of “South Pacific”, “Into The Woods” and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”.

(Hint on the “fusing of musical styles”: For the past 1,400 years (in this class) you have been listening to different musical styles. Mixing those styles in a single movie or show is “fusing”)

LISTENING ASSIGNMENT: Identify the 5 musical examples for Part VII-B.
WATCH & LISTEN: Videos: “ South Pacific”, “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”, and “Into The Woods”. Listen to period examples on all of your CDs.

“Too Much Pressure” by Colleen Wenke

##I don’t have a book and you responsible for the book##

This is the assignment I have for this reading.

The First homework -Signal Phrases: Too Much Pressure – Availability Ends

Signal Phrase: Read “Too Much Pressure” by Colleen Wenke (564-568). Consider it a model for using signal phrases to introduce quoted material as explained on pages 508-512 of the Bedford Handbook.

1. Copy two good examples from Wenke’s essay of signal phrases that name the author, title, and/or publication information to introduce the quote.

2. Then write a statement of your own about Wenke’s main point which names her and her article in a signal phrase to introduce a direct quote (something she wrote, not something she quoted from someone else). Provide paranthetical citation for your quote.

The second homework- The Adored, Buzzing
Instructions
Read “The Adored, Buzzing around Us” by Sharman Apt Russell (221). Write a one-paragraph summary of this reading. In a separate paragraph, write an analysis that includes three examples Russell gives to illustrate her generalizations about insects. The downfall of Oedipus is the work of the gods; the downfall of Othello is self-inflicted

Use evidence from Sophocles’ Oedipus, from Shakespeare’s Othello, Moor of Venice, and from secondary sources to explain why you agree or disagree with this statement: “The downfall of Oedipus is the work of the gods; the downfall of Othello is self-inflicted” (Should you choose this option, you need to read both Oedipus and Othello in full).

Incorporate any feedback from peer review discussion.

adjusting the discount rate?
• How does the discount rate affect the decisions of banks in setting
their specific interest rates?
• How does monetary policy aim to avoid inflation?
• How does monetary policy control the money supply?
• How does a stimulus program (through the money multiplier) affect
the money supply?

System and the monetary system in the officials’ home country?
