Human Right to Health

Act as a health care policy professional, hired to either 1) explore a current health care issue/ crisis before proposing a potential strategy to address the issue OR 2) research and evaluate a current best practice in health care policy or practice. Ideally, the issue or practice should be of global concern, impacting a large demographic group in at least one or more countries. Part A of the semester project is a presentation developed for and graded by the classroom community. Part B is a well-developed, professionally cited term paper- based on information presented in your presentation- and graded by the instructor. Please note: the project should pay particular attention to how intersectional issues (for example identity, ethnicity, ability, race, class, and/or gender) shape the development, implementation and evaluation of the health care issue or best practice. Each project should also utilize one or more of the human rights tools/ frameworks/ models that we explore in class. The final presentation should be approximately 15 minutes with and additional 5 minutes for discussion. Presentations will be graded on the basis of (1) quality of research (2) the integration of classroom readings, resources and lectures into the presentation, and the (3) creativity, organization, and coherence of the presentation. The purpose of this project is to explore the relationship between current global health care issues or best practices from two lenses: intersectionality and human rights. In this exercise please consider incorporating the following into your presentation and paper. 1. Everyone: A short narrative detailing the community area(s) and demographic group(s) impacted by the health care issue or practice. This is an excellent time to explore the connection between intersectional issues and the community of focus including the overall health of the community (physical/ socio-emotional) and the built environment. This is also a great space to explore health care as a practice historically – within the context of the project. 2. For students exploring option #1: A well-developed overview of the selected health care issue- including background information; treatment plans/ approaches and past failures or successes as critiqued by the author. Before sharing a strategy to address the issue, be sure to comment on the utility of past interventions, regardless of success. When sharing the strategy, be sure to delve into why this is a strong potential practice for this community? This issue? Carefully consider whether the proposed strategy will meet the intersectional and human rights needs of participants. If so, how? If not, what are the limitations? * Topic is Syrian refugees health crisis is refugee camps. Please focus on 1. Use MS Word to write your responses, and submit your answers to all three questions in one Word document. Also list recommendations or reminders to ensure that all families feel welcome and can benefit from the workshop. Cite references from the Learning Resources in your response. Imagine that you are a home visitor working with a parent who has three children, ages 1, 3, and 5. Based on what you have learned, describe three suggestions for ways the parent could support his or her children’s early literacy learning, keeping in mind that though this parent is eager to help her children experience the joy of literacy learning, she is also very busy. Cite the Learning Resources in your response. Consider the often-heard statement “A parent is a child’s first teacher.” In your own words, explain what this phrase means in terms of early literacy development.
