learning Theories in Practice

4 Tasks/ Headings
Task1. Choose two of the following contemporary learning theories:
• Cognitive constructivism (if you choose this one do not choose the broader constructivism’ option below)
• Constructivism
• Experiential learning
• Transformative learning
Provide a summary of the two theories that you have chosen, and discuss why they are relevant in your teaching context.
Task2. Using examples from your own practice context (teacher or trainer), discuss how you could embed these modern understandings of learning theory within your teaching/training practice. Include examples of teaching strategies that are consistent with the learning theories that you have  chosen.
Task3. In the article by Phil Race (Race, P. (2005). Making Learning Happen: A guide for post-compulsory education . Los Angeles, London, New Delhi & Singapore: SAGE Publications.) he identifies seven factors that underpin successful learning. Discuss the ways in which the theories that you have chosen, and the teaching and learning strategies that the theories suggest, would address the seven factors that Race  identifies.
Task4. In what ways could you use the learning theories that you have discussed and the article by Phil Race to further develop your own teaching and learning  practice.
Rationale
This assignment requires you to have an understanding of the major theories of learning and apply these to your work environment. The assignment also focuses your attention on the applicability of learning theories to a teaching and training context, and gives you the opportunity to explore how these theories contribute to your teaching  practice.

Financial innovation and alternative finance

The title of this will be "Financial innovation and alternative finance"

Following is the requirements from the teacher:

If you were to choose the topic Alternative Finance/Financial innovation, for instance, you could develop something to do with internet currencies, barter networks, crowd funding or credit unions which all challenge traditional (retail and investment) banking. However, the assignment must be based on an issue (or issues). This means that different views, both academic and professional, should be demonstrated in your analysis and discussion.
Your report should also posit issue resolution by examining and contrasting the actions of two organisations.

You need to think about these organisations carefully and how you intend to illustrate and discuss the contrasts needed for this assignment. Ideally your organisations will come from different countries, different sectors within the same country, have different views on the market place and/or come from contrasting stages of country development. Alternatively, you might consider an organisation from contrasting historical periods. You will also need to think about the theory (or theories) that you will be developing in the assignment and the appropriateness of your chosen case studies.

Your report should have the following sections:

An introduction to the issue with reference to and discussion of relevant academic debates

A case study examination of the actions and effects of the issue on your chosen organisations.

An evaluation of the different organisational effects with reference to key theoretical debates.

An exploratory conclusion that attempts to resolve the issue with reference to your organisations drawing on both practical and theoretical explanations.

Recommendations for the resolving of the issue both for business and with reference to wider debates.

Critical Analysis: Close Read Passage Analysis

Instructions:

Choose 2 passages from the readings in the list given belown. Which ever you are most familiar with. You don’t have to identify entire pieces, but just a paragraph or two. (See passage samples below.) The passages may come from the same author, but must come from two different pieces. (Certainly you can analyze two passages from two different authors.) Analyze the passages explaining the passages’ significance and their relationships to the larger work from which they were taken:
•What is the passage about or what does it suggest?
•What themes from the larger work are evident in the passage?
•How does the passage bring up or develop those themes?
• How does the passage relate to works by other authors of the same time period? Of different time periods?
• How does the passage relate to works by the same author? (if applicable)
•And most importantly, how does the passage reflect the societal/ political/ ideological struggles of the time period?
Passages may come from any of the following:
~Zora Neale Hurston- “How it Feels to be Colored Me” , “The Gilded Six-Bits”
~Langston Hughes- “The Negro Speaks of Rivers” , “Mother to Son”
~Richard Wright “The Man Who Was Almost a Man”
~F. Scott Fitzgerald- “Babylon Revisited”
~William Faulkner- “Barn Burning”
~Ernest Hemingway- “The Snows of Kilimanjaro” (826)

To write this paper well, you should:

Be sure you include the titles and the author(s) in the introduction to your essay(s).

Not summarize the passage. Instead, you must provide analysis of the passage by answering the questions above.

Consider looking at the use of rhetorical devices in the passage and their effects on the passages.

Engage specifically with and analyze each passage, and should not stray from the quoted passage. In other words, if you identify a passage from Frederick Douglass’s Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, do not provide a general discussion of all the themes or ideas one can find in Douglass’s text. Instead, use your response to analyze how the specific passage reflects particular themes and ideas from Douglass’s Narrative.
Use correct MLA formatting.

Details:

You may write one large essay that incorporates the two passages, or you may write two shorter essays that discuss the two passages individually. Turn the two shorter essays in together as one document.

The two passages do not have to relate in any way, except that they are from the same time period.

The two passages may come from different genres, but do not have to.

Please do not conduct any outside research. I want only your well-supported opinions.

~1500 words long total (~750 words per passage), 12” font, double spaced, Arial or Times New Roman, use correct MLA formatting and documentation, provide a works cited page that is not part of the 1500 word count. Please remember that the passages themselves are not part of the word count.

Passage Sample 1 (from Thomas Pynchon, “Entropy,” p. 2819):

But for three days now, despite the changeful weather, the mercury had stayed at 37 degrees Fahrenheit. Leery at omens of the apocalypse, Callisto shifted beneath the covers. His fingers pressed the bird more firmly, as if needing some pulsing or suffering assurance of an early break in the temperature.

It was that last cymbal crash that did it. Meatball was hurled wincing into consciousness as the synchronized wagging of heads over the wastebasket stopped. The final hiss remained for an instant in the room, then melted into the whisper of rain outside.

Passage Sample 2 (from Gloria Anzaldúa, “How to Tame a Wild Tongue,” p. 2953-2954):

Nosotros los Chicanos straddle the borderlands. On one side of us, we are constantly exposed to the Spanish of the Mexicans, on the other side we hear the Anglos’ incessant clamoring so that we forget our language. Among ourselves we don’t say nosotros los americanos, o nosotros los españoles, o nosotros los hispanos. We say nosostros los mexicanos (by mexicanos we do not mean citizens of Mexico; we do not mean a national identity, but a racial one). We distinguish between mexicanos del otro lado and mexicanos de este lado. Deep in our hearts we believe that being Mexican has nothing to do with which country one lives in. Being Mexican is a state of soul—not one of mind, not one of citizenship. Neither eagle nor serpent, but both. And like the ocean, neither animal respects borders.

Microeconomics

Topic
In some countries prices are determined by the government rather than market forces. In these countries there are usually underground or black markets where illegal transactions take place at higher prices than the government controlled price ceiling. In economies where prices are determined by market forces, underground markets are seldom observed.
1. Why are there market extensive underground markets in economies with government controlled prices but not in economies with market determined prices?
2. Briefly include how the market determines prices; if a price is higher or lower than it “should” be, what happens and why? Why does voluntary exchange (buying and selling) occur at higher than legal prices on the underground market? (A graph might help to explain your paper).
Don’t confuse the term demand/ quantity demanded and supply/quantity supply
Grading
Papers will come back with two score:
1. The first is for the economics.
2. The second for the presentation.

philosophy paper III

Utilitarianism will usually explain our decisions about right and wrong quite
well. For instance a utilitarian could easily show how his theory
demonstrates the immoral nature of an action like child molestation.
Although the pedophile does gain some pleasure, his victim suffers a life
time of tragic consequences, which massively outweigh the gain to the
molester. So total aggregate happiness is not increased and the action is
therefore immoral according to their theory.

However, imagine that you see a dangerously overweight child eating a
triple-decker ice cream cone. Only a few feet away are three very poor,
underfed and envious children. You decide to take the ice cream from the
overweight child and give it to the three starving waifs. This seems like a
win-win. The overweight child is momentarily unhappy but it is better for
his health, and ultimately overall, for him not to eat that ice cream. The
three poor children get a welcome treat that they would otherwise rarely get,
and because of its rarity it will have no negative health effects for them. If,
as it seems, everyone wins then utility would say to do this.

However that choice doesn’t seem right. There are lots of reasons why, but
none of those reasons seem to be utility.

Can a utilitarian answer this and show that utility does give us the answer
that we know to be correct, and that those ‘other reasons’, which seemed to
be something other than utility, really amount to utility?

General comments: This paper topic is somewhat more involved than the
previous three. It requires you to run through several steps in the argument
and could require a somewhat longer paper to adequately discuss it. You
can either defend utilitarianism or criticise it. (In this case it is probably
much easier to defend it.)
