Please expand on the Essay Proposal that follows: FAMILY AND KINSHIP IN NORTHERN AFRICA Hugo Pemberton African History Family and Kinship in Northern Africa The relations between family and kin have been a challenging topic to cover, especially in the age of the Web. Both family and kin are symbols of belonging and form the basic unit in which persons develop, and grow. The families in North Africa are not any different from those in other parts of the world when it comes to functionality and purpose. Essentially the family is responsible for provision and protection of its members, more so when they are children. The kin plays a similar role, although from a much distant position. In most settings, the family is a reflection of the society, though some cases have this distinction narrowed down to communities. In this proposal, I posit that the families and kin in North Africa are founded in a multicultural setting influenced by acquaintances and neighbors. The North African communities are considered largely Arabic due to the close interactions between the Middle East. North Africa is close to the Asian continent, and interactions with countries such as Israel are common. In some cases, political tensions between the neighbors of the North African states caused worldwide challenges in the political as well as social arenas. Trade between the countries in the North African area and Asian continent led to the interaction of culture and sharing of some of the values and principles associated with current practices. This is not the only influential factor to the current family and kin relations , although it has a high impact One of the outcomes of the interaction of communities through trade, war, and colonization is religion. The North Africa nations are widely Islamic in religion, and the belief has its set of rules. Being largely Islamic, family and kin in the area are influenced by the teachings of the religion, and the fact that the region is highly religious contributes to current systems of leadership, interaction, and development of the region. Religion is a core principle of the responsibilities, expectations, norms, and values of members of the society, towards each other as well as towards other members of society. Culture is another factor that has contributed to the development of family and kin ties. It is inherent that not all families in the area share similar opinions on all issues, political, social, or otherwise, and culture profoundly influences the relations. As with other countries in development, some immigrants have settled in the North Africa region and have sought to adhere to their cultural preferences . In the combination of culture and modernism, some decisions, and practices in the family ad kin are derived from the origin of the persons under scrutiny. Families and kin in the North African area are determined by a multiple variable balance that considers the individual and group dynamics to the expectations of society. There are areas of common interest such as safety, security, and the life essentials where all members of society contribute and have expectations, yet some areas where individual taste comes to play. The use of internet has led to changes in the social dynamics of the region, as it is the case with the Arab Spring, which was responsible for a political revolution. Contributions by individual members are what conglomerates to the position of the community, and the North African region has been experiencing changes with the development of globally derived systems in interaction, from the family unit to the society as a whole. Developments have been brought about by exposure of the communities to the world through education, relocation, or communication, and preferences have led to revolution.

Duchess of Malfi vs King Lear

2. When feminist theory is studied, the usual starting point is the eighteenth century. However, women have written about and against misogynistic attitudes since the Middle Ages. How does the play The Duchess of Malfi present a feminist view of women as leaders and mothers/wives. Contrast this play with the depiction of women in Shakespeare’s King Lear.

Case Study Critique

They’re Just not Reading (adapted from McInerney 2014) Case Study Critique Cathy was very concerned when she compared this year’s Year 6 class with last year’s. Very few students demonstrated an interest in reading. What was happening? What had gone wrong? When it came to DEAR time, students chose books that were predominantly picture based or too simplistic for their reading age. During shared reading sessions students would daydream or chat amongst themselves. After some considerable thought, Cathy devised a plan in an attempt to foster positive reading attitudes and behaviours in her class. She planned to capitalise on current affairs to encourage student reading and hopefully impact on their writing and HSIE problem solving skills too. The class learned about an oil spill in the Great Barrier Reef. Cathy brought in newspaper articles to class that sequenced in logbook fashion the events of the leakage. To prepare the students to understand the article, she had her students participate in several field-building experiences. First, they used a world map, an encyclopaedia, library books and the internet to gather and share relevant information. Next, she simulated an oil spill by coating an object with oil. By then, the class was eager to read the article. After they read and discussed the newspaper article, the teacher divided the class into groups. Cathy organised heterogeneous groups comprising 3 students each, taking into account factors like student ability, cultural and ethnic background knowledge, and gender. The groups were asked to imagine how the problem might have been prevented and to explain and support their solutions. Some groups were particularly enthusiastic and got on with the task very effectively. Two groups were slower to get going, however, and as Cathy went to investigate she was met by groans from some students: “Why do I have to work with her? She doesn’t know anything,” and “He’s too bossy.” Cathy explained that learning how to work together was part of the task and encouraged them to get on with it. She found she had to return to both these groups several times and that they were noisy and often off-task. The next week she rotated the group composition, being careful to separate those students who had previously not worked well together. This benefited some of the students from the difficult groups, but there were still two students who remained disgruntled about having to work in groups again, which made it difficult for those they now joined. She found she needed to take these two students aside to remind them that they needed to participate like everyone else. She asked whether the issue was really about working together or about the reading and research they were being asked to do. “Why can’t we just work on our own? It doesn’t have to be a big happy family, you know,” one student responded. Overall, Cathy found that most students’ reading and enthusiasm were enhanced through the constructivist teaching model she had adopted. They read another newspaper article about how people in their local council were helping with the cleanup efforts of the Great Barrier Reef and, when Cathy asked if the students wanted to help, all but the two difficult students replied with an enthusiastic “Yes!” The groups designed posters and made speeches requesting donations of clean towels for cleaning the oil soaked animals. The two reluctant students were still not enthusiastic about participating in these activities, but they did contribute happily to the four large bags of towels the class sent to help in the cleanup. Scenario-specific guidelines Drawing upon constructivism and cooperative learning consider how effectively Cathy has applied these approaches to enhance her students’ reading. You should discuss the specific strategies Cathy has adopted in light of constructivist theory as well as considering specific theories and research on cooperative learning approaches and achievement motivation theory (e.g. goal theory, expectancy value theory, attribution theory). Think about what further steps Cathy could have taken to try to meet the social and learning needs of all her students.
