Professional Knowledge in Counseling

This assignment involves demonstrating your
knowledge in a number of required professional orientation topic areas for Licensed Professional Counselors for the state of Colorado. You must answer all aspects of each question. This will require you to do a lot of searching on government and agency websites to find the information you need. DO NOT COPY AND PASTE information to answer the questions, use your own words. Plagiarism will not be tolerated. You will write a 10-12 page paper (approximately one page per topic/question) that addresses the questions below. Each topic should be given approximately equal weight throughout the paper. Citations need to be in APA format but the over-all paper does not need to follow APA guidelines. Please Number your responses.
PART I – KNOWLEDGE OF PROFESSIONAL STANDARDS
1) The response should demonstrate that the student understands the differences between certification and licensure in professional accreditation for the state of Colorado, and the effects that public policy has on these issues. The response should also demonstrate that the student is aware of how to enroll in the primary professional counseling organizations for an LPC in the state of Colorado and nationally. The response should discuss at least one major issue of public policy that is central to professional credentialing in the state of Colorado, as well as discuss the criteria for acceptance into state and national counseling organizations and any required continuing education.

2) The response should demonstrate that the student understands the ethical standards of the American Counseling Association (ACA) and the state of Colorado through a discussion of the primary elements of the ACA ethical codes and the Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) (www.dora.colorado.gov) standards for licensure in Colorado (these can be tricky to find so I have uploaded them). The response should demonstrate that the student understands ethical and legal binds that counselors can find themselves in when engaging in the practice of clinical mental health counseling. This should be done through presenting at least two specific scenarios with ethical/legal complications, as well as a discussion for each scenario of the appropriate ethical and legal response and the primary legal or ethical principle addressed in each scenario.

3) The response should demonstrate that the student is able to discuss professional issues that confront clinical mental health counselors. The response should present both sides of the debate regarding at least three current professional issues (i.e. managed care, integration of spirituality in counseling, diagnosis). The response should present a clear understanding of the rationale supporting both points of view.

4) The response should demonstrate that the student understands management issues in the field of counseling by providing a discussion of the aspects of leadership that a clinical mental health counselor may be involved in. Examples could include program development, supervision, budgeting, program evaluation, or administrative leadership. The response should discuss at least three primary qualities that successful managers in mental health services and programs will demonstrate.

5) The response should demonstrate that the student possesses a rudimentary knowledge of the public policies that influence the quality and accessibility of mental health services. This should include a review of academic research in this area. The response should demonstrate that the student is aware of local (Denver), state (Colorado), and national (United States of America) policies that are relevant to clinical mental health counseling.

PART II – KNOWLEDGE OF SUPERVISION, CONSULTATION, and ADVOCACY MODELS
6) The response should demonstrate that the student has a general knowledge of at least two different models of supervision and general knowledge of the concept of consultation, as well as the practices involved in each (I have uploaded an article on Models of Supervision). The response should discuss strengths and weaknesses of each model of supervision selected. The response should discuss ways in which counselors serve as consultants and present at least two specific examples of situations in which a counselor might need to act as a consultant.

7) The response should demonstrate that the student understands the concept of advocacy by presenting a clear definition of this construct and describing the activities that a counselor would engage in when acting in the role of advocate for the profession of counselors. The response should discuss at least two effective strategies (one on the Colorado state level and one on the national level) for client advocacy that can influence public policy. At least one example for each strategy should be provided that demonstrates how program funding or increased availability of services could result from this advocacy.

8) The response should demonstrate that the student has investigated the process of emergency management in a clinical mental health agency in the Denver area. This should be demonstrated through reviewing academic research in this area. The response should discuss the elements of a successful community mental health emergency management system.

PART III – KNOWLEDGE OF EMERGENCY RESPONSE and TREATMENT TEAM CONCEPTS
9) The response should demonstrate that the student understands the standard by describing how a counselor can respond as part of an EMR team during varying types of crises, disasters, or trauma-causing events. The response should discuss ways in which counselors can access and participate in local (Denver, Colorado) EMR teams and what their responsibilities on such teams would be.

10) The response should demonstrate that the student understands the importance of teamwork in the mental health field. This should be done through a response that presents at least three scenarios in which interdisciplinary treatment team work would be necessary to meet a client’s needs. The response should discuss ways in which each of the three clinical situations could lead to the necessity of a team of professionals working together to serve the client.

Methodology illustrates the basic uses of questionnaires and personal interview. The methodology process will take into consideration of the SERVQUAL model while also consider the specific characteristics of the tourism industry under the contemporary business environment. A questionnaire will be devised and attached also in the end of the dissertation as an appendix. 2
Primary data is critical for getting to know the specific results of a certain claim discovered in secondary resource research. The understanding of the related theories and concepts also calls for the collection and use of primary data. What’s more, the conclusions and findings that we already have are also to be backed by the utility of primary statistics and measure the distance between the theory and the application of it. This is why, in this dissertation, primary resource collection has been one of the tasks that take up considerable amount of the time and resources of the research process. 2
Questionnaire can be a good way to collect first hand data for the analysis of research result. Therefore a questionnaire is designed to be handed out for people to fill in order to get enough primary data. There are several things to be considered in designing a questionnaire. First, questionnaires should be clear and right to the heart of the problem that is supposed to be addressed by it. Second, the designing of the questionnaire should be clear and logical in structuring the various questions that have to be answered. In addition, questionnaires must make sure that data will be enough to come to an informed analysis of the given topic. The deploying of the questionnaires should also be carefully designed. First, they are supposed to be deployed at places that are highly representative and related to the issue. Second, it should be made sure that these questionnaires are distributed to people in a random manner. This means that the targets of the questionnaire should be different kinds of individuals who have different characteristics in life. 3
The practitioners of the low cost hotel in UK should be investigated. Data has to be collected about their behaviour within the low cost hotel. The analysis of the primary data collected from the practitioners of low cost hotel should be from three aspects. First, what kind of service within the model they have provided. In addition, we need to consider what kind of service within the low cost hotel that they think is significant and required to better improve the service that they have already provided. In the end, a comparison should be made as to how they are satisfied with the degree to which they met those standards should also be considered within the data analysis. 3
Similar primary data has to be collected from the international students. This is the focal point of the research. 3
Research design 4
Strategy for primary data collection 4
Data will be collected via questionnaire survey. Questionnaire survey is fitting for approaching a large number of research participants in an effective and efficient manner(Saunders, Lewis, & Thornhill, 2009). 4
Each question of the above questionnaire should be answered with a yes or no. some of them, however, are supposed to be answered with a short and concise further explanation. Foreign students of the universities of the UK are chosen as targets questionnaires. Questionnaires should be evenly distributed to both parties with the objectiveness of the result being considered. 4
300 questionnaires are deployed altogether. These questionnaires are distributed in online chatting room that is currently popular in the UK among university students. Email is also adopted as another method to access to targets. In general, students are all friendly and glad to help. The questionnaire survey is relatively easy because access to them is far more convenient and can be achieved within the campus. 4
As with personal interviews, people are randomly selected to be interviewed concerning their views on the matter. In particular, 10 interviewees will be selected to answer questions. Most of these questions are mentioned in the questionnaire above. However, the result and data of interview are supposed to be much more accurate and believable since people would ponder before offering their answers for the questions asked. For a questionnaire, the information collected in this process maybe untrue since people would potentially consider that it is a waste of their time and just cope with it instead of thinking for a while for the right answer. 4
10 students are interviewed with the questions given above. Answers to all questions are recorded and is later transferred into writing form. 4

What impact does celebrity culture have on female sexuality?

I want to look at how celebrity culture effects young women’s sexuality (in terms of body language, sexuality and post-feminism)
I want to look at what role the media have to play in this.
Women in the public eye are now a mix of nudity, power, success and independence channelled through the image of a sexual goddess. In modern day western culture, there is a debate around what is too sexualised, and what is not sexualised enough. This conflict between male dominated definitions of “sexy” and a woman’s confidence and ownership of her own body is constantly discussed within feminist discourse and embodied in celebrities such as Beyonce and Rihanna. Arguably, it is now necessary for an empowered woman to outwardly display her sexuality as it becomes a signifier for her strength of character
