Group Decision-Making

Group_decision_making.jpgOne of the most bewildering findings of social psychology is that people working in groups often make worse decisions than people working individually. This finding is even more disturbing when we realize that the American legal system relies on the power of group decision-making (e.g., juries) for determining the guilt or innocence of people on trial. This week, your task is to examine the influence of the group in jury deliberations. If you have served on a jury, you may use your own experience as a basis for the analysis; if you have not served on a jury:

Watch the video clip “Twelve Angry Men (Links to an external site.)”
or
Read the 12 Angry Men (Links to an external site.) movie review.

Use this example as the basis of your analysis.

Reflecting on your jury experience (or the jury experience depicted in “Twelve Angry Men”), answer the following questions:

What social conditions influenced the decision-making process? Explain the impact of each.
Were the pressures for group harmony implicit or explicit?
How did groupthink influence the situation?
How is minority influence used to change majority opinion?
Is group decision-making more or less efficient than individual decision-making?
Is group decision-making more or less accurate than individual decision-making?
How can we change the social circumstances surrounding jury deliberations to reduce the influence of group dynamics?

The Senior Seminar is an independent study in which Applied Behavioral Sciences students demonstrate their personal learning during the program. More specifically, it is an opportunity for you to review the various concepts and theories that were covered in the program, and then give examples of how these concepts and theories have been put into practice in your life. Usually, this project takes the form of a paper that is 10-15 pages in 10-12 pages in length.

Some of the concepts that were covered in the program are as follows:

how groups function – clearly presenting your position

problem solving skills – managerial skills

conflict resolution – leadership skills

life long learning – ethical thinking

temperament types- critical thinking

verbal and non-non verbal communication – listening

multiculturalism

(the assigned writer can add some concepts if familiar with the Applied Behavioral Sciences Curriculum)

Steps to follow in preparing your Senior Seminar Project:

Select those concepts, ideas or theories that were the most important to you or had the most impact on your life ( at least 8 concepts)

Think of examples of those concepts ( Think of particular situations in either your personal or professional life)

Write an explanation of each concept and then give a specific example of how you changed your behavior after learning this concept.

Anarchy Dress as Democracy

There three thing to do in order to complete this paper.

1.The final research paper for this class is your opportunity to tie together you years here at FIU as an international relations student with what has been covered in this course. The topic is up to you to decide. A good topic will engage the course literature and lectures. A good method for devising a research topic will be to reflect on areas of knowledge you have built up while at FIU and begin to re-examine those topics through the fundamental literature we have covered in this course. In order to avoid restricting your creativity, the final paper will not have a page limit. You will be expected to fully engage your topic, research question, and address all the issues in that area of international relations. This paper and the final should be formatted to be doublespaced, 1 inch margin, and 12 font.

2. Paper Proposal: Here you will find the thesis statement, info and sources. Follow the paper proposal till the end do not go out of the topic and do not support the Venezuelan government.

As many of people in the United States and Latin American societies have seen the evolution or revolution as Partido Socialista Unido de Venezuela calls the complete transformation of the political system Venezuela have under go in the last 17 years. One of the most prospers country in the region with a stablish democracy since the 1960’s, greatest oil reserve in the world, a population of 27 million and strategic geographical location. Why this country has develop the ultimate lawlessness against Venezuelan people; has the democratic thoughts interlaced with Marxist communists thought or the impact of Chinas economic influence in the region and Cuba’s patriotism liberating from the imperialism encourage this political development?
On this research paper we will exploring different areas in order to understand the development of Venezuela as country, society, economic and political systems. However, we will take a very close look and what have been the main motive to transform a political system using two distinct ideology blend together; Democracy (Western) and Communist (Eastern). Also we will determined if the influence of China and Cuba in the region have been the backbone to the development of lawlessness nation.
The Importance of the subject to the International Relation is very unique. The Venezuelan political movement of the last 17 years has cause a domino effect in the entire region where countries such as; Nicaragua, Argentina, Bolivia, Brazil, Ecuador have follow the same path. It is important to mention that Revolutionary group FARC have big ties to this ideology and great support from Venezuela government which could led to falling of Colombia into the same political path.

These are only a few site that I will be using in order to complete my research. However, there is a collections of videos from the famous Venezuelan historian Oscar Yanes that will be incorporated. The source that I have listed are very important for the startup of the project since it will give us sufficient background to develop our answer. For instance the history of king Ashoka is a key point to the development of early western ideas of government. The Cuban revolution communist thought influence in Venezuela will provide us the Eastern European and Chinas Political thought. The desiquality of education in Latin America by Fernando Reimers will contribute to the education system of Latin American in the 21th first century. And most importantly the Dragon in the Tropics will stablish the whole concept of Revolutions of the 21th century by Chavez and the roadmap for the Lawlessness state created.

Research Paper over book To Kill A Mockingbird

A research paper over To Kill A Mockingbird. The paper has to be 2-3 pages and in MLA format. There has to be a research question that I am answering and the answer will become the specific topic of the paper, it should be literary in nature such as an analysis of one or more of the characters; of the plot; of the setting; of the point of view from which the story is told; of the style, tone, and language used; or the use of symbol, allegory or myth; or of the theme of the work; or possibly a paper about the real-life historical setting of the fictional story). The paper may include a brief biography of the author, but an entire paper about the author is not appropriate. I have to have a bibliography with it with sources from books and online. It has to have 15-20 sources.

“excellence in care”?

Please provide short paragraph addressing the following?

So, what do you think the future holds for community health? Do you think it will be inevitable that we move toward it?

**Please see the question and reply by student and reply to the student in short paragraph supporting or opposing their response.

Deb G
1.How is it different from “excellence in care”?

Excellence in care is geared to a specific type of care. Community health considers a wider range of care that caters to the whole community versus just those in need of particular care.
2.How do you move to it?

Moving into it starts with being educated about your community and the people within it which includes the local and state governments. Government branches associated with healthcare have already pulled statistical analyses on the area can provide more targeted feedback. As a general rule there are four functions that would assist in doing this successfully and they are as follows:
1.understand and promote community health
2.establish a strategy
3.out the strategy in motion
4.continue to improve it

3. Why doesn’t everybody do it?

It really boils down to dollar and cents. It is costly to do and there is no provider compensation from any third parties such as an insurance company so many organizations choose not to participate. They believe that their time is better spent focusing their efforts on other avenues
