Police Use of Force

Each of these areas is discussed in more detail below. Again, the length of the paper should be 15-16 pages (No longer, double spaced, does not include title page, references or appendices). Do not be preoccupied with paper length. The primary objective of the assignment is to demonstrate a working knowledge of the course material. Format and Grammar: Papers should be typed in 12 point, Times New Roman or Arial font, double spaced with no more than 1 inch margins on the top, bottom, left, and right sides of the page. Include centered page numbers on the bottom of each page. Papers should use American Psychological Association (APA) sixth edition format. This format is to be used for citations in the text and the reference list towards the end of the text. Papers should use proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar. Look for and correct run-on and incomplete sentences. Use spell check! Papers should be written in a formal style in the third person, past tense. Write in an objective format. Refrain from writing in a subjective format by starting or using sentences with “I,” “me,” or “we.” Be sure to cite sources in the text. If you take a direct quote from a source, you must use quotation marks and provide a proper citation. If you paraphrase or summarize the work of someone else, you must provide a proper citation. Failure to use proper citations may be deemed plagiarism and may result in the group receiving a significant grade reduction (including a failing course grade). Each paper must include a reference page. References should always be listed on a separate page from the text of the paper. Center the word “REFERENCES” in all-caps at the top of the page. Sources: The paper must give proper credit to the work of others. All sources included in the REFERENCE section must be cited in the body of the text. Students are required to use academic and professional journals to support arguments. These sources are not the only sources for your paper. Remember to utilize government sources such as the Bureau of Justice Assistance, National Institute of Justice, Department of Homeland Security (reports and publications section of their web page), FBI UCR data, and the Bureau of Justice Statistics. Any sources which are not peer or scholarly reviewed must be approved by the instructor before use. Wikipedia is not a legitimate/credible source. Do not cite entire pages of text in order to try and achieve the page limits of the paper. In the past, papers have been submitted where every single word on the page is within quotation marks and comes from a properly cited empirical article. Even though it is appropriately cited, I do not want to see entire pages that lack any original thought. Review and synthesize the available literature and tell me your thoughts. Organization of paper: 1.Title Page. The title page should contain the following items: The title of the paper, student name, the class (e.g., CCJ 6992 Police Administration, Department of Criminology & Criminal Justice, University of North Florida), and the instructor’s name. The title page is a standalone page that precedes the body of the text. . 2.Abstract. The body of the paper should begin with an abstract that prepares the reader for what he/she is about to learn. Briefly discuss the aim of the paper, what you will be discussing, and why it is important. . 3.Administrative Issue. You are to select one (1) of the problems/issues listed in the instructions. Clearly identify the problem you have selected and discuss your interpretation of the problem. That is, explain how you view the problem and the details associated with the problem. It will not suffice to simply identify the problem and remark “it is a problem” – you must explain why! . 4.Proposed Solution(s). Discuss the ways in which the solutions you have identified will impact the problem you have discussed. More specifically, why did you select the solution and why do you believe it will impact the problem? This is where your research will prove most beneficial. Look for examples of similar problems agencies have dealt with – how did they go about remedying the problem and what were their results? What are your expected results?. 5.Proposed Solution(s) Limitations. Do you believe the solutions you have selected have limitations with respect to mitigating the problem facing your agency? Not every solution is perfect and while there may not be a “limitation” per se, there is always room for improvement. What do you feel would improve the solution you have discussed?. 6.Impact on your agency. How will it impact your agency? At what levels will the impact be felt? What changes do you anticipate will occur? Will there be any cost, how much, for how long? . 7.Impact on other agencies, cities, counties etc. Are you obtaining resources from other agencies? How long will you be able to utilize them? Who is absorbing the cost of the resources? How long can they pay for them? Is the action plan adversely impacting the other agencies/entities? . 8.Conclusion. Defend why you believe your proposed solution will mitigate the problem facing your agency. One way to think about your conclusion is if you went to a town meeting with community members concerned with the problem. In this type of town hall meeting you would have to briefly explain what your agency did and why you feel it will be beneficial. The conclusion section is the end of the body of the text. . 9.References. A complete listing of all the sources you used to complete the paper is provided in the reference section. You should follow APA format (6th edition) for this section. Pay attention to punctuation and placement of the necessary items in each bibliographic entry. The reference section is a standalone page that follows the body of the text. . 10.Appendices (if necessary). This is where you would put any supporting documentation or other material that you think is relevant (e.g., graphics, figures, large tables, etc.), but is too lengthy to include in the body of the paper itself. The appendices section is a standalone page that follows the references.

Read below forum and write a reply to it: Memories are a very important factor in human life. We memorize how to do specific tasks, we memorize names and faces, and most importantly (in my opinion) we memorize experiences. In the case of Mr. Wearing, it was very interesting that he still retained the ability to play the piano. After watching the brief video I wanted to find the complete documentary and watch his story, it looked very interesting. It amazed me that he could be in the middle of conversation with his wife and completely forget the previous sentence she had just said to him. I did find it heart warming that he was able to at least remember his wife. Of course in true fashion of how I learn, I relate everything I learn to some type of movie, book or show I have seen or read and this week definitely brought me to one of my favorite movies, 50 First Dates. In the movie the main love interest has been in a car accident and has damaged her hippocampus, basically she has anterograde amnesia and can’t access new memories that her brain has made (Pinel, 2014). Within the movie in order to help her remember what had happened the previous day, she would watch a video that basically brought her “up to speed”, and each day, new moments where added to the video to help her with the coming day. I think that the hardest things for me to deal with if I were to have a 30 second memory would be taking care of myself everyday. How could you live alone and be able to survive? I understand that you do not need memory to just go about sitting around your home, but you could start a meal on the stove and forget you had turned it on; someone would have to live with you or at the very least check up on your well being during various parts of the day. I think the challenges of not being able to make new memories with my family would be the most difficult. I love reading new books and watching movies, not being able to relate to family and friends in experiences like that would be heartbreaking. I think a positive of having that severe of a case of amnesia would only be that each time I would remember something or someone (such as with Mr. Wearing) the excitement that came along with it would be a wonderful moment.

Read the below forum and write a reply: According to the dictionary memory is defined as the mental capacity or faulty of retaining and reviving facts, events, impressions, or recalling or recognizing previous experiences (Dictionary.com, 2016). Some may say that our memories define who we are and what we have become. Most would tell you that without a memory they wouldn’t be able to live or function in everyday society and life. Our memory is our universe within. Most humans desire to improve our memories each day and fear its loss. I would have to agree our memories are what makes our lives. Would you agree? Our short term memory ability helps us for immediate use. Short term memory helps us remember phone numbers, what we need to pick up at the grocery store, directions to a location we’ve never traveled. Our long term memory ability stores the memories and information that helps with our learned skills such as riding a bicycle, and driving a car. Long term memory ability stores our habits, fifth grade math skills, and most importantly autobiographical memories (who we are and where we came from) (Maguire, 2016). The fear of loosing my memory is catastrophic. Personally, as I sit here and consider what live would be like without having the capability of remembering how I grew up, who my family was, how to perform skills that I enjoy doing almost seem like life would barely exists. I believe our memories are the basis of our culture. in other words, memories make us who we are and why we exist. This for me would be my greatest challenge, not knowing the basis of who I was and where I came from. I couldn’t imagine living every day doing the same thing over and over or reliving the same episode over and over. Even though in the video Clive doesn’t seem bothered when his wife is asking him over and over about his daughter getting married. Afterwards he expresses frustrations, but during the conversation with his wife he seems as though he is almost unbothered by the thought that he can’t remember what was said ten seconds ago (Where Memories Go, 2016). What would life be without have the ability to mentally travel through space and time? Could someone benefit from this? I believe there are certain circumstances in which loosing your memory could be positive. For instance, someone who was abused either mentally or physically as a child or someone who has experienced extreme or severe trauma in their lives. Not all memories are good memories. In a situation where we are connected to bad memories that overwhelm and control our current lives could be detrimental. In this instance I would say that would be a positive example. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT GOAL SETTING

Assignment Review the learning goals you set for yourself in the discussion board assignment. Why did you choose those goals and how will you ensure you meet them? Which modules of the course align with your learning goals? Next, review the modules in the course. Choose two modules that interest you the most and two modules that interest you the least. Discuss why you choose those modules and how you might find some point in each module that would benefit your professional practice. Combine both sections into one APA formatted essay of 1000 to 1500 words. Module 1 Discussion includes: •“Provide 1 concrete example of how at least 1 of the Modules 1-10 for this course relates directly to your current practice.” (Review Modules 1-10.
