Leadership Development Project

Requested instructions for this University Paper for the Course Leadership are as following:

Compare and discuss the leadership styles of two leader of your choice, use common leadership theories to do so. Those can be any leader. After

doing so extract the qualities and characteristics that those leader showed and apply those to the hospitality environment. For example: How can

these leadership styles be applied to the hospitality environment? How can these positively influence the hospitality environment.

Exact outline:

Project Overview: The LDP will enhance and sharpen the students’ leadership skills and actions, both in critical and reflective understanding. Each

student is firstly to critically compare and contrast two leaders that they have dealt with. They need then to extract good qualities and state how

they would put these to use in the hospitality industry.

Overall Aim: To develop new knowledge and future actions that are constructed based on insights and experiences of realizing leadership potential.

Each individual is to produce an LDP paper of 3’000 words.

Learning Outcomes (from the CRS or syllabus):
1. Predict how the various leadership styles can be applied in real life situations.
2. Consciously establish leadership concepts and theories versus real life business scenarios.
3. Understand your own leadership style and potential
4. Use skills to assimilate, organize, evaluate and present information in a professional manner.

LDP Objectives:
The LDP is designed on the five significant areas of leadership development framework as outlined below:
(i) To attend to the changing context and demands of their current and potential leadership roles and indicated expectations and realities that they

face in today’s world of learning, work and business opportunities.
(ii) To develop personal and professional skills and demonstrate how these influences their leadership goals and underscore assumptions about

business environments.
(iii) To examine their personal and leadership intentions based on their core values, and to be aware how their values shape the choices and

decisions of their working environments.
(iv) To develop self-and group awareness skills as a leader and demonstrate how their work gives a distinctive style.

Organization & Methodology:
Write a detailed essay report demonstrating the development of two leadership abilities with a focus on studying leadership theories, evaluations

and assessments with specific focuses on contexts and work domains. Reflect on your exchanges in class, as well as group discussions. The written

work shall demonstrate a student understanding leadership values; identified and advised leadership styles; aspirations of roles, potential and

motivations of their development as indicated in the assessment grid format. The final output of each student’s LDP will indicate an eagerness to

determine a range of leadership theories, principles and practices in professional context. The report should conclude with practical

recommendations and goals or next steps to advance his/her own leadership abilities.

Introduction – Position statement; statement of purpose
Identifies the development period, goals, and purpose of the project
Evaluation of Leadership Theories

Critically discuss the impact of migration and diaspora in shaping everyday life relations in multicultural urban locales.

This module will examine theoretical understandings of diaspora, its relationship with associated ideas such as migration, cosmopolitanism and

transnationalism, and its significance as an analytical tool for understanding modern social and cultural
4
formations. It centres on the analysis of the cultural and social concomitants of transnational migration and diaspora in the post-colonial world.

Whilst issues such as globalisation, the international division of labour and the state remain important to this, the emphasis throughout the module

is upon the lived experience: the ways in which different people experience and make meaningful migration, displacement, and difference. Here,

‘home’, ‘belonging’ and ‘identity’ are key phrases. Crucially too, we shall be investigating the implications of large scale movement for academic

as well as more popular understandings of ‘culture.’ Theoretical perspectives on migration and migrant communities have changed radically in the

last twenty to thirty years, moving from consideration of ‘assimilation’, ethnic minorities and multi-culturalism, to contemporary debates

concerning cultural hybridity, ‘borderlands’ and the trope of ‘mobilities.’
Recent research on diasporic communities has focused on the politics of identity, the experience of place and the meanings of ascribed ethnicity.

Rather than being fixed, bounded and homogeneous, diasporas are perceived to be changing, contested and hybrid. However, a growing number of social

researchers are now concerned with understanding cultural identity as neither fixed essence nor utterly contingent and fragmented. More

specifically, there has been a reassessment of questions concerning sexuality, gender, class, ethnicity, age and ‘race’ in relation to broader

questions of culture, nation, and multilocal spaces of belonging. Diverse identifications intersect with other categorisations of everyday life and

they are contextually contingent.
What are the theoretical and methodological implications of diasporic cultures and peoples? What might a ‘post-modern’ approach involve and what

perspectives might this bring to questions of culture and place? What are the implications of this sense of constant impermanence, displacement,

flux, fragmentation and change? How are places constructed, remembered and narrated by diasporic groups? Furthermore, how is diaspora used as a

theoretical concept to challenge fixed understandings of identity and
6
place? How do we account for the sense of migrancy and at times exile that diasporas experience? How are multiple, hybrid, new and symbolic

identifications negotiated, (re) produced, (re) constructed and translated in everyday life? What is the role of virtual diasporas and how is the

agency of digital diasporic communities understood in the age of information technology? What are the implications of diasporic consciousness in

articulating identities and the politics of identity?
Suggested module core theme structure

Text factors for aiding comprehension, Informational text close reading and teaching students about text factors

Choose a peer reviewed, scholarly article that has been published within the last 5 years. Briefly state the gist of the article. That can usually be found in the abstract and from the headings, the introduction, and the conclusion. Then, pick a grade level and a particular type of population, that is, urban, inner-city, bilingual, rural, etc. Then pick something that you are going to teach that is tied to the CCLS. Explain how the information in the article can be used to teach to whatever standard you picked for your particular population. A page or two is all you will have time for on the exam. You will only have about an hour to read the article excerpt, and plan and execute your essay, so this paper should be no more than 3 pp. long.

Competitive Dynamics: Understanding the forces of competition that exist within a market is critical to developing a successful strategy

Understanding the forces of competition that exist within a market is critical to developing a successful strategy. By understanding the patterns of competitive moves we are better able to predict how competitors will respond to any strategy we seek to implement. The rivalry that occurs between firms over time helps to shape the competitive dynamics in the industry.

For this discussion board you should outline and discuss

one factor that influences the likelihood of attack
