Argumentative Essay: why should we care

Full instructions are attached in a document labeled “Argumentative Essay Rubric”. This paper is my final paper for my Academic Writing course and is worth 23% of my final grade. Need I say, this essay is VERY important.

Crucial must haves:

1. A strong thesis! The thesis should include the three main body topics and conclude with a greater purpose that simply explains “why should we care”.

2. Tie backs! The concluding sentence in every body paragraph should tie back to that greater purpose in the thesis.

3. Transitional paragraph when transition from one writing method to the other. See “Argumentative Example”.

4. Labeling! Take the attached “Argumentative Example” for example.

The introduction should be labeled: Introduction

If you decide to use an Example you should have a paragraph that talks about an Experience, an Observation,

and Research. (just as the example)

If you the cause and effect writing strategy there should be three paragraphs labeled: Effect 1, Effect 2,

and Effect 3. Just as the example

For Compare and Contrast you should have a: Point 1, 2, and 3.

Narrative: just one paragraph

For each of the three topics discussed in the thesis there should be a different writing strategy for each

of them.

Myths of hate and evil: Many ideas of evil rest on the notion that human beings are either fundamentally good, fundamentally flawed/evil or some combination of both

Many ideas of evil rest on the notion that human beings are either fundamentally good, fundamentally flawed/evil or some combination of both. Interpret and analyze this idea using material we have covered in the course. This question is intentionally broad, so part of your answer consists in interpreting it in order to say something important about how we may come to understand evil.

Augustine Confessions book review

BOOK REVIEW: You are required to write one Book Review. The book you will review is Augustine’s Confessions.

The point value for this review will be seventy (70) points. The Confessions book review will be due by

Sunday midnight CT at end of Week 7! Late Book Reviews will receive a one-time twenty per-cent (20%)

deduction and must be submitted to the Late Drop Box. The Rubric for your book review may be found at the

end of this syllabus.
Book Review Confessions: Traditionally book reviews should help you formulate skills in four key areas: (1)

efficient written communication, (2) knowledge of a specified historical topic, (3) the significance of

historical research, and (4) the skill to evaluate the work of others. A typical summary “book report” can

at best teach only the first two listed above. A book review goes beyond mere summary to inquire into the

overall value of the work. Because Augustine’s Confessions is a primary source certain additional questions

should be addressed in your review:
1. Why did Augustine write this particular book?
2. Did he have a particular target audience in mind?
3. What does the book tell us about his particular philosophical/theological journey?
4. What insights as to the evolution and/or nature of early Christianity can be gleaned from the book?
5. How can the Confessions be used as an historical source? In what way does it paint a very broad picture

of the intellectual and social world of the late fourth century, just as Christianity was coming to

dominate?

Critical Legal Thinking Case Assignment

Rubric; Recognize the Applicable areas of law ( 8 points) -Identify the applicable principles of law ( 18 points) -Identify the key facts ( 18 points) -Apply the law to the facts to resolve the issue ( 18 points) -APA Format; Organization; and grammar, punctuation, and spelling ( 8 points) Although this rubric is based on a factual scenario raising legal issues, it can be adapted to a factual scenario regarding an issue of ethical principles or business principles. Business principles are the subject of this assignment. -Important Guidelines Your score will be determined by evaluation of your substantive content. Your analysis and solutions as applicable must be based on the principles of law, ethics, or business principles presented in the text and on the course site–not merely on your opinions. You must describe how application of the principles of law to the key facts supports your determination of the issues. You need to show the reasoning behind your decision. – Key facts are those facts that determine if the principles of law or business are met. You do not need to repeat the factual scenario. Doing so does not meet the requirement of recognizing the key facts. You must still demonstrate you recognize those key facts. -Factual Scenario: Roger is a director of a major car manufacturer. This is one of the few remaining car companies yet to introduce a sport utility vehicle. Roger convinces the board to investigate forming a new division to design, build and market a sport utility vehicle. Roger convinces the board that the first sport utility vehicle that the division introduces should be the largest yet sold to the general public. The board sets up a committee to do some research, and this committee hired a marketing consulting firm. The committee and the consulting firm both had a few reservations about such a large vehicle, but the data showed that the market could most likely support it. After much discussion, the board of directors voted in favor of creating the new division and the huge sport utility vehicle as its first product. The vote was 9 to 6 in favor of the plan. Shortly before this vehicle was introduced, there was a major oil supply disruption that caused the price of crude oil to nearly triple. Few purchasers were found for the huge new sport utility vehicle and the company lost considerable money. A shareholder files suit against Roger claiming he violated his duty to the corporation by convincing the board to build and market the large SUV. Discuss Roger’s duties as a director, and any defenses he has to the lawsuit.
