Interpersonal Communication

It’s a little confusing that it’s called an “evidence-based report” but it’s really just an essay written on

the first person style.

1500 words

•This essay is a personal reflection on your communication skills so write it in the 1st person (e.g. I tend

to…).

•Talk about why you need communication in your life and what you gain from it.

•Think about how you generally communicate and where you communicate (e.g. work, home, socially). Talk about

whether you tend to be an effective communicator or not and what outcomes that has for you in life. Identify

about what you do well e.g. maybe your feel you are a good listener or can create rapport really well. Give

examples.

•Identify any barriers to communication that you have come across and how those make communication

challenging for you and what you might do to overcome them. Give examples of how you might improve or

overcome barriers that e.g. you might make the other feel more comfortable by being more empathic, or you

might need to step back and focus on listening and attending yourself.

•Bring theory into your essay by referring to sources you have read to back up your reflections. E.g. you

might say something like:

I recognize in myself a tendency to talk over other people, and jump ahead without really focusing on what

the other person I
saying. To overcome this habit, I need to be focus more on
listening and becoming more “other-oriented” which involves
making a determined attempt to understand the other person and
their experience (Beebe, Beebe & Redmond, 2013, p. 25).

•You don’t need to use this exact format – you can mix up the sections of your essay and discuss it in your

own way as long as you have all the areas covered.

•You will also need to:

1. Write in essay style with an introduction, discussion and conclusion – no bullet points or single-

sentence paragraphs please!

2. Will need to ensure the essay work must be fully referenced with in-text citations with page numbers and

a reference list at the end.

Explain this title, focusing on the second half of the book, and especially Siniva’s character. Think specifically about her role in Alofa’s education, and how her mediation influences Alofa’s sense of belonging.
