Dance; In Still/Here, Bill T. Jones contemplated mortality, something he faced at a young age

In Still/Here, Bill T. Jones contemplated mortality, something he faced at a young age. What do you contemplate? What weighs heavily on you and your generation? Choose something that you think about deeply and consistently. Discuss how you would you go about using dance to investigate this issue. Why would you do it this way?
What you choose can be personal (think about how Bill T. Jones lost Arnie Zane to AIDS; how he himself is HIV positive and thought about his own mortality at a young age; how the veterans in “Action Conversations” reflected on their experiences in combat, etc.). It could also be something that is a communal, social or political experience (consider Victoria Marks’ “Not About Iraq,”; AIDS activism in Bill T. Jones’ “D-Man in the Waters,”; Marylee Hardenbergh’s response to Hurricane Katrina in “One River Mississippi,” and the ballroom dance classes in “Dancing in Jaffa.”).

Write out a dialogue (point form NOT permitted) between Plato, Kazepides, Senyshyn, Egan and Gelsomina

The following is your take home exam. Please note that you cannot write to me about any questions you may have about the exam. If you do, university policy dictates that I will not be able to respond to your email during the examination period. You will have a full week – if you need it – to complete the exam. It will be due by 11:59 PM on Tuesday, December 2, 2014. This is the official date. You will have to return your exam by email attachment with two files: a WORD and a PDF version. In the “Subject” (title) heading of your email indicate the following: “Take home exam for Educ 471 – Surrey campus”

Here is your one question for the exam:

Please write out a dialogue (point form NOT permitted) between Plato, Kazepides, Senyshyn, Egan and Gelsomina (i. e., the Gelsomina from our most recent film – La Strada). These characters will engage in the kind of dialogue format you engaged in your group assignments for “Stand and Deliver” and “Zorba the Greek”(Movie). They will be discussing what they value in a curriculum.

But in this dialogue each of the five characters in your answer must speak at least five (5) different times. The exact question for their dialogue with each other will be:

What are the most important values – the good – that should be part of a curriculum for students in either primary, secondary or post-secondary education. In your title for your dialogue please indicate which one (1) of these three levels: i.e. primary, secondary or post-secondary education is your choice for your answer. Your characters can speak in any order that you want them to as long as they speak on at least five (5) different occasions.

You do not need to provide page references or any references whatsoever except to indicate in brackets at the beginning of the dialogue who is actually speaking; i.e., Plato, Kazepides, Senyshyn, Egan or Gelsomina. What each character says must be in YOUR OWN words. But these words must be an accurate indication or reflection of their ideas on what is the good in a curriculum as presented in your readings and the last film we viewed: Fellini’s “La Strada”.

Please note that the minimum for this exam is 3000 words. The maximum is 5000 words.

The familiar phrase All men are created equal, has a complex history

The familiar phrase All men are created equal, has a complex history. On the one hand, equality appears to be a good thing, which is why it has been the goal of individuals and social movements at different points in the history of Western society. On the other hand, not all members of a given society would agree on what equality means in practice, or which people have a right to make a claim for equality, or whether equality has been achieved. One could argue, therefore, that while equality is an important concept in the history of Western society, it has been and remains contested. Discuss at least two specific historical examples as well as one issue of contemporary significance that illustrate these debates and struggles over the meaning and practice of equality.
A considered response will require two full paragraphs, about a page of printer text.
