Researching Race and Ethnicity. Research Project

Research Project (70%) Report The final report of my findings can be up to 3000 words maximum(10% over or under). The word counts of each section are a rough guide, but the majority of the word count should be on my findings. References and Appendix are not included in the word count. My final report should include the following sections: 1. Title: What are contemporary views on interracial dating among young people?(18-30 years) 2. Table of contents This should include a list of sections of the report (i.e. this list of sections) and page numbers 3. Abstract (100 words) An abstract is the synopsis of a piece of research. Its purpose is to provide a brief summary of the research. This should tell them briefly what my study investigated, the methods that I utilised to do this and what the key findings were. (why is important and why I did such a research) 4. Introduction (150 words) This section should include the following subsections: a) Research question: What are contemporary views on interracial dating among young people? (18-30 years ) b) Research aims: These should tell them how I aimed to answer my overarching research question. For example, I set out o To explore cross-cultural and gender differences, in the norms regarding interracial dating among young people. o To examine attitudes towards interracial dating among young people. o To understand how cultural differences contribute to dating conflict between young people, and their parents. c) Key terms: Please define the concepts I will utilise. 5. Literature Review (800 words) Please review pieces of literature relevant to my project (i.e. books, book chapters or journal articles). Explain how my research builds on this existing knowledge, ‘not reinvent the wheel’. A literature review is not a summary of what I read, but rather demonstrates that I can: “Understand and critically analyze the background research; Shows how my investigation relates to previous research; Reveals the contribution that my investigation makes to this field (fills a gap, or builds on existing research, for instance)” (University of Reading, 2014). 6. Methods (400 words) ???This section should indicate: a) the methods I utilised to gather my data. b) the advantages and disadvantages of using these methods c) how I recruited my sample d) where the research activities took place e) a detailed description of my sample f) a reflection on how my own race, ethnicity, class or gender affected the process of conducting my research( I currently live in the UK, I am originally from North Africa, married to a black mixed race British American Ex Military, I have two kids. this extra details I thought it may help to cover this question(F) ). g) ethical considerations 7. Findings (1250 words) This section presents an analysis of my data. It is also the place they expect me to utilise the course readings(to be attached) to theorise my findings. (In other words, in addition to describing what I found, give them some sociological explanations about my findings. For example, taking the investigation about young black men’s experience of playing rugby on a team in the Midlands, it may have been found that there are very few players. Why is this? Is it related to race, local demographics or geographic location? If so, how can you link it to what a sociologist has written about race and sport in England? Two ways to organise this section are by themes or by the main points that you discovered after gathering and analysing the data. For example, I will be doing interviews, I may have found three main themes that emerged from the transcriptions of the interviews. 8. Conclusion (200 words) In this section please provide a summary of what I found. Also, describe the limitations of the research (e.g. if the interviews didn’t work, why? Was the sample big enough, if not, why? If you were to do the study again, what would you change, omit or add?). What about possible future areas of study? Did I discover any as a result of my project? 9. References (not included in word count) Please indicate the resources (i.e. books, book chapters, journal articles) that you cited in my project report, using Harvard Style. 10. Appendix (not included in word count) This section should include my research tools (i.e. interview or focus group questions, the questionnaire you designed), and the consent form you used. Note: if possible you can provide me with – interview questions form. – include the transcript .

Terrorism is the most important security issue in the Asia Pacific

This question about terrorism. Begin with a title page that clearly states your student number, the title of the unit, due date of the essay, the topic you’re addressing in full and an accurate word count. Also note any extension you may have been given. ? Ensure that you adhere to a word-count of 2500 words not including references or the reference list (see below) ? Ensure your paper includes page numbers and that you justify the text in each paragraph. ? Reference all sources of information through in-text references and a reference list (Harvard Style of referencing). Include page numbers where you are referring to or applying a specific thought – whether as a direct quote or a paraphrase. ? In general, try not to paraphrase closely or to use more than a minimal number of quotes. Explain ideas and make arguments in your own words. ? Provide a properly structured introduction and conclusion. ? Avoid providing a mere summary or synopsis of developments, the paper must reflect on IR and security theory as well as on current events and contain a critical analysis of the material relevant to the topic, leading to a final synthesis. ? Avoid including references in the introduction or the conclusion. ? Any essay that does not include significant reference to scholarly books, book chapters and/or journal articles will be unlikely to receive a high grade. ? Primary sources (such as newspaper and magazine articles) can be used but they should be supplementary to the utilisation of scholarly (secondary) mater The following criteria will be used for assessment: 1. Evidence of reading relevant material, including different points of view. This need not be restricted to the provided materials, indeed, you are encouraged to read as widely as possible. 2. Evidence of understanding of the question asked. Remember that you need not accept the premises of the question, but may challenge the validity of the question itself. 3. Discussion and critical analysis of relevant concepts, theories and issues. 4. Logical arrangement of material relevant to question asked, reflecting an understanding of the issues and the relationships between elements of the subject. 5. Use of relevant facts or empirical information to develop and substantiate critical analysis and argument. 6. Clarity and correctness of writing, (e.g. grammar, punctuation and spelling). 7. Proper referencing, acknowledgement and citation of sources. You must use the Harvard style referencing system. 8. Correct reference list provided at the end of the paper in alphabetical order by each author’s surname, with no numbers, bullets or dot-points. 9. Adherence to the prescribed word count. Students may utilise the 10% rule, whereby the final word count can be 10% under or over the prescribed word count. Essays that provide a word count that is under or over the prescribed word count once the 10% rule has been applied will be subject to a reduction in marks. One (1) mark will be deducted for every 100 words that fall outside the acceptable minimum or maximum final word count.

Environmental Injustice in Cancer Alley

Cancer alley is the name given to the area stretching from Baton Rouge to New Orleans along the Mississippi River. It has been named so because of the high concentration of industrial and chemical facilities located along the river, mainly oil refineries. For decades residents have complained of higher than average cases of cancer in their communities along with many women complaining of reproductive health issues. Such a concentration of toxic processing and polluting sources would bring up questions of Environmental justice anywhere, but furthering the case of environmental injustice and racism, is the fact that the majority neighborhoods affected are mostly African American. I would like a scholarly presentation of a case study/research paper, about 6 pages, with a bibliography, and in APA style. Should be written from an Environmental justice(or injustice) perspective. Should go into detail how the toxic polluting facilities disproportionately affect the minorities and poor who live around them, and the effects on the residents. references I want used: Blodgett, A.
