Signature Assignment God’s Story Research Paper Instruction In this course, we are learning that the stories in Luke and Acts are an integral part of the grand story of Christian Scripture. In many ways, God’s action as described in these books provides a microcosm of the overarching themes of creation, fall, and redemption that find meaning and movement throughout the entirety of the Bible. Luke and Acts, in particular, invite us to consider the nature of the promise and possibility that is inherent within the story of the Bible. As we have seen, the good news of Jesus Christ is both the fulfillment of God’s promise and an invitation to discover the possibility of transformation in and for the world. In order to better understand the meaning and implications of God’s redemptive work in the the New Testament, you will choose a person or concept that is highlighted in the course for further research and analysis. The topic choices for research and analysis are Mary, costly discipleship, the death of Jesus, the kingdom of God, and the Gentiles. Note that each of these topics has a corresponding article posted in the course. Assignment Requirements • Introduction with thesis statement • Body paragraphs that address the following questions: o In Luke/Acts, what is the significance of the topic (the death of Jesus) to the story of the Bible? o What is important to know about the history, culture, and theology surrounding this person or concept? o What was the original meaning and significance of this person or concept? o What insights gained could be meaningful for our context today? • Body paragraphs embed research and analysis from scholarly sources, and contain in-text citations. • Conclusion • References page, formatted in APA style, minimally includes: o The Drama of Scripture; o the accompanying topic article found in the course; o two additional sources from the APU Library. o NOTE: In APA style, classical works – including the Bible – are not listed in the References page. Embed biblical citations within the text as follows: “Then Jesus called the twelve together and gave them power and authority over all demons to cure diseases, and he sent them out to proclaim the kingdom of God and to heal” (Luke 9:1-2, NRSV). Only indicate the Bible version in the first citation; it is not necessary to identify each citation as NRSV. Jesus died for our sins, was buried and was raised on the third day. The death of Jesus Christ was important as the fulfillment of the lord’s promise for the salvation of the human race (Mitchell, 2015). For example, it is represented in the gospel as the foundation of the door of Gods purpose or promise to the human race for salvation after the original sin as expressed in the scripture. According to the gospel of Mathew, the death of Jesus Christ represents God’s sovereign plan for the final salvation of human race. Through his death, Jesus gave the human race a new way of looking at his purpose (Mitchell, 2015). For example by identifying his own mission with the Passover, Jesus told the Christians that he came to enact the law of the new redemption as well as the new exodus as promised by the prophets earlier. The death of Jesus Christ signifies the central Christian belief that Jesus founded the Christian church through several comers’ stones in his life was conceive by the power of the holy spirit, born of the virgin Mary, performed miracles, founded the lords church, was killed through crucifixion as form of sacrifice in order to achieve atonement, rose from the dead as ascended into heaven and that in the fullness of time he will return (Mitchell, 2015). Most Christians believe that Jesus Christ died in order to reconcile the human race to God and that in the fullness of time will sit in the judgment of the dead either before or after his resurrection. However, this is tied to the belief in his second coming. Moreover, due to the belief in the second coming of the lord, Jesus has a role a role as a savior more that existential or societal concerns that his afterlife (Mitchell, 2015). Due to this most, Christians worship Jesus as the incarnated son of God who represents the second person in the holy trinity. However, a few Christians reject the concept of Trinitarians either wholly or partlyasnon-scripture. The death of Jesus bears a lot of relevance to Christians today. First, through his death, Jesus set us free from anything that could hinder any sin that previously entangled us. This allowed us to live with perseverance the race that the lord originally marked for us (Mitchell, 2015). For instance by enduring the death on the cross, Jesus gave us the only or the ultimate solution to our sins. Through his death, Jesus resorted to us our status of being in fellowship with God for by his death, Jesus made reconciliation or the propitiation for the sins of the human race cf. Lev. 16:8-22.
