https://lib.usm.edu/legacy/plag/plagiarismtutorial.php Please do not send your score to your instructor (do not complete the box entitled “Your Instructor’s Email”). However, keep your pre-test score, so that you can compare it to your post-test score.
4. After you have responded to the 10 items, please complete the follow-up boxes:
Your School, Organization, etc. (required):

Your Name (required):

Your E-mail (required):

Confirm Your E-mail (required):

Your Instructor’s E-mail (optional):

5. You will receive your corrected responses (and total score) by E-mail. Keep this information so that you can compare your pre-test and post-test scores.
6. Complete the tutorial. Don’t forget to keep notes as you proceed through the tutorial, and be sure that you keep track of how well you did on Quizzes 1 and 2.
7. Complete the post-test.
Assignment
Write a 2-3 page paper in which you do the following:
Following completion of a critical and candid assessment of your performance in the above exercise on plagiarism, discuss areas in which you had misunderstandings – and for which you may still require improvement.
Keys to the Assignment
• Perform a candid self-assessment of your performance. What were your pre-test and post-test scores?
• Compare and contrast your scores on Quiz 1 and Quiz 2.
• Discuss in what ways might you need improvement (i.e., where did you have had misunderstandings)?
• How can you improve your knowledge of plagiarism in those areas for which you had misunderstandings, and what resources might be most helpful to you in this respect?
Assignment Expectations
Your paper will be evaluated using the following five (5) criteria:
• Assignment-Driven Criteria (Precision and Breadth): Does the paper fully address all Keys to the Assignment? Are the concepts behind the Keys to the Assignment addressed accurately and precisely using sound logic? Does the paper meet minimum length requirements?
• Critical Thinking (Critical Thinking and Depth): Does the paper demonstrate graduate-level analysis, in which information derived from multiple sources, expert opinions, and assumptions has been critically evaluated and synthesized in the formulation of a logical set of conclusions? Does the paper address the topic with sufficient depth of discussion and analysis?
• Business Writing (Clarity and Organization): Is the paper well written (clear, developed logically, and well organized)? Are the grammar, spelling, and vocabulary appropriate for graduate-level work? Are section headings included in all papers? Are paraphrasing and synthesis of concepts the primary means of responding to the Keys to the Assignment, or is justification/support instead conveyed through excessive use of direct quotations?
• Effective Use of Information (Information Literacy and References): Does the paper demonstrate that the student has read, understood and can apply the background materials for the module? If required, has the student demonstrated effective research, as evidenced by student’s use of relevant and quality (library?) sources? Do additional sources used in paper provide strong support for conclusions drawn, and do they help in shaping the overall paper?
• Citing Sources: Does the student demonstrate understanding of APA Style of referencing, by inclusion of proper end references and in-text citations (for paraphrased text and direct quotations) as appropriate? Have all sources (e.g., references used from the Background page, the assignment readings, and outside research) been included, and are these properly cited? Have all end references been included within the body of the paper as in-text citations?
Tips and Suggestions
1. Your SLP will be evaluated on the rigor of your self-assessment, and not on your pre- and post-test scores.
2. The following website may be helpful to you in completion of the SLP: “Recognizing and Avoiding Plagiarism.” Cornell University. Retrieved August 10, 2011 from the following site:https://plagiarism.arts.cornell.edu/tutorial/exercises.cfm

Can Business Students Learn to Evaluate Better?
Evidence From Repeated Exposure to a Peer-Evaluation System
STÉPHANE BRUTUS
Concordia University

SIGALIT RONEN

Trident University International
In this article we describe how the repeated experience of evaluating peers in
undergraduate classes resulted in students becoming more confident and skilled in the
task of evaluating others. We used a matched group quasi-experimental design, in which
182 students evaluated their learning group members in three different semesters, and a
control group (three matched groups of 162 students each) evaluated their team members
only once. Our results indicate that repeated use of a standardized peer-evaluation
system provides an effective means of increasing students’ confidence in evaluating their
peers, as well as improving the quality of the evaluations they provide. These findings
demonstrate the added value of incorporating standardized evaluations into business
school group work as a means of generating skills relevant to managerial practice.
Implications for research and practice as well as future research directions are provided.
Although much research has focused on the psychometric
attributes of student evaluations of
peers, less attention has been given to the learning
processes that are triggered when students evaluate
each other (Chen & Lou. 2006; Falchikov, 1994;
Falchikov 8E Goldfinch, 2000; Fellenz, 2006; Li, 2001;
Richardson. 2005; Topping. 1998). Using a matched
group quasi-experimental design, our work tests
the impact of repeated exposure to a standardized
peer-evaluation system (PES) on student evaluators.
We specifically contend that repeated exposure
to a PES increases students’ comfort with the
evaluation process and their effectiveness as evaluators.

ment and related hypotheses, we offer a brief description
of the PES. as it represents a central piece
of the study.
The PES was first introduced in the business
school where we conducted our research in 2004, to
promote, facilitate, and standardize peer evaluations
at the conclusion of group projects. Although
the system has many commonalities with typical
peer-evaluation processes used in higher education,
its distinguishing characteristic is that its basic
elements are standardized and thus constant
across multiple evaluation contexts and periods.
Students evaluate each other along four dimensions
(cooperation, practical contribution, conceptual
contribution, and work ethic) using a point
allocation system. They are also encouraged to
write narrative comments to support their quantitative
evaluations. After the evaluation period, students……

Assignment
In a 2-3 page paper, please do the following:
Discuss how the peer-reviewed journal article you have chosen is important to our understanding of business ethics.
Keys to the Assignment
• Summarize the article in 1-2 paragraphs; and
• Discuss the relevance of the article to business ethics (in short, why does this article matter)?

POLICY & POLITICS: Party Politics

Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution, affords The Congress of the United States the mandate to “… provide for the common Defense and general Welfare of the United States” and the power to “… make all laws which shall be necessary and proper for carrying into Execution, the foregoing Powers, and all other Powers vested by this Constitution in the Government of the United States, or in any department or Officer Thereof.”
As you read these words, it is evident that the intention of the Framers was that the bulk of all governmental power should ultimately lie in the legislative branch. After all, Congress represents the marriage of the concepts of the representative republic with democratic principles. However, in recent times, scholars and practitioners have debated whether the legislature has become too powerful, relative to the other two branches.
Find two scholarly articles published in the past 3 years on the topic of congressional power or partisanship. Also, review the Learning Resources and consider the changes in the power of the legislative branch and its implications.
1. Provide a description of the powers of the legislative branch that have either grown or diminished in the 21st century and explain how. Use current literature to support your response. Then,
2. Describe at least two strategies that major political parties use to motivate party members to vote along party lines. Explain how this might work.
3. Finally, describe at least two strategies major political parties use to enhance voting loyalty, particularly regarding key congressional votes. Explain how these strategies might work.
